Cuttack,5/11/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )-Sri Basanta Kumar Behera, Ex-Secretary, Karapalli GP, Rangeilunda Block, Dist-Ganjam was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.22 dated 25.09.2007 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988/409 IPC for misappropriation of Govt. rice under Sampurna Gramina Rozagar Yojana(SGRY-I & II) scheme issued to the GP and cash from GP fund amounting to Rs.6,40,845/-.
Today, i.e. on 05.11.2021, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Sri Behera, Ex-Secretary and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 409 IPC. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.10,000/-(Rupees Ten Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 13(1)(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Sri Daitari Ghadei, Ex-Inspector Vigilance, Berhampur Division, A/p-Inspector Vigilance, Balasore Division had investigated the case and Sri P.K. Dora, Addl. Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
