Cuttack, 28/9/2021 ( Odisha Samachar)- Sri Ashok Kumar Mohanty, Ex-Junior Clerk, office of Project Administrator, ITDA, Karanjia, Dist-Mayurbhanj, A/p-Junior Clerk, ITDA, Baripada, Dist-Mayurbhanj was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada in Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.22 dated 24.04.2012 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.4,000/- (Rupees Four Thousand) from a complainant for preparation and release of his arrear pay bill.
Today i.e. on 28.09.2021, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada convicted Sri Mohanty, Jr. Clerk and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/-(Rupees Five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Sri Saroj Kumar Samal, the then Inspector of Vigilance, Baripada Unit under Balasore Division, A/p-DSP, Vigilance Cell Division, Cuttack had investigated the case and Sri S.K. Ray, I/c Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Baripada conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
