TAHASILDAR, BARANG, DIST. CUTTACK ARRESTED BY  VIGILANCE IN INTERCEPTED CASE.

Cuttack,7/6/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )-    On receipt of reliable information regarding collection of huge cash by Sri Bichitrananda Nayak, Tahasildar, Baranga, Dist. Cuttack as illegal gratification from different sources, the officers of Cuttack Vigilance Division kept a close watch over the movement and activities of Sri Nayak.

 On 6.4.2021, the Vigilance Officers of Cuttack Division intercepted him in front of Mani Tribhuban Apartments, Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar, while he was proceeding to his residential house by official hired vehicle. During interception, Sri Nayak tussled with the Vigilance team and threw away the cash which he was carrying on the road. Cash amounting to Rs.1,07,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Seven Thousand) was recovered by the Vigilance team from the road, which Sri Nayak could not satisfactorily account for.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.8 dated 6.4.2021 has been registered U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Sri Bichitrananda Nayak, Tahasildar, Baranga, Dist. Cuttack. Further, Infocity PS Case No.85 dated 6.4.2021 has been registered against Sri Nayak for obstructing the Vigilance officials in performance of their official duties.

Following interception, his office chamber at Baranga, residential house at Patia, Bhubaneswar and house at native village Gopalpur, PS. Gondia, Dist. Dhenkanal were searched on 6.4.2021.

In course of search and inventory, Sri Bichitrananda Nayak, Tahasildar, Baranga, Dist. Cuttack, during his service period from 2016 to 6.4.2021, has been found in possession of assets worth Rs.55,69,468/- (Rupees Fifty-five Lakhs Sixty-nine Thousand Four Hundred Sixty-eight) including three numbers of plots at Bhubaneswar, one four wheeler, two numbers of two wheelers, gold and silver ornaments, cash of Rs.90,925/- (Rupees Ninety Thousand Nine Hundred Twenty-five) and costly household articles. Besides, he has made deposits worth Rs.25 Lakhs in insurance policies.

Accused Sri Nayak, Tahasildar, Baranga, Dist. Cuttack was arrested on 6.4.2021 and today i.e. on 7.4.2021 he has been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Cuttack. The Hon’ble Court has remanded him to Judicial Custody till 20.4.2021.

        The investigation of the case is in progress.
