KVK-KhordhaLunches Farmers Field School for Empowering Livestock Farmers

Balipatna/ Bhubaneswar, 29/03/2021 ( Odisha Samachar ): KrishiViugyan Kendra, Khordhawith its commitment towards the farming community has added another milestone in its road map by inaugurating LIVESTOCK FARMER FIELD SCHOOL (LFFS) at Danapada village, Balipatna Block, Khordha, Odisha. The LFFS envisages at empowering over 3000 farmers in 15 nearby villages in adopting livestock farming technologies. Farmer Field School is a school without walls for improving the decision-making capacity of the farmers and facilitate cross learning opportunities. The school were inaugurated by Padma Sri BatakrushnaSahoo, a leading fish farmer in Khordha district. In his inaugural address, Chief Guest Padma ShriBatakrushnaSahoo applauded the KVK’s efforts for helping the farmers of the Khordha District in adopting the scientific farming system.

Dr.SarojKumaer Swain, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar in his address appreciated the efforts made by KVK-Khordha for helping the farmers for adopting scientific farming systems. He also informed the audience that FFS piloted by ICAR-CIFA in Odisha, West Bengal,Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh have become extremely popular. Dr. Swain felicitated Smt. SumatiTripathy, the operator farmers for adopting scientific practices and being the role model for the dairy farming community.

Dr.Shiba Shankar Giri, Head of KVK, Khordha took the lead in establishing Livestock Farmers Field School. While addressing the gathering Dr.Giri appreciated the farmers for their livestock farming activities and cooperation with the KVK. He focussed on the role of livestock for strengthening rural livelihood and visualised that the field school inaugurated today will contribute greatly tothe extension and advisory services delivery to the livestock farmers in the region.

Dr.B.K. Banja, SMS (Livestock), KVK-Khordha assured his help in promoting scientific livestock farming in the Khordha district. A training program on ‘Dairy farming for rural livelihood’ was organised and coordinated by him.Mr. Ajay Kumar Dash, Mr.Surendra Singh, Mr.PragyanRanjanSahoo and Smt. Sukanti Behera, SMSs, KVKalso participated in the programme. The implements for dairy farming were distributed among the farmers. About 200 farm women and farmers attended the programme maintaining COVID-19 guidelines.
