Bhubaneswar ,10 March 2021 ( Odisha Samachar )- Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Khordha, ICAR- Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture and Promotion and Stabilisation of Farmer Producer Organisation (PSFPO) Project-Tanager, Bhubaneswartoday jointly launched two Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs)‘Divyalok’ and ‘Sambalit’ at Balipatna block, Khordha district of Odisha.TheseFPCswereinauguratedin commemoration tothe International Women Day 2021. Dr Shiba Shankar Giri, Head, KVK-Khordha welcomed the guests and gave an overview on the continuous support of KVK in establishing FPCsin Balipatna Block. The FPCs are spread over 17 Gram Panchayatas of Balipatna block of Khordha district, consisting of 500 farmers in 25 Farmer interest groups in each FPC. He informed that under the Government of India’s initiatives and support more such FPOs will be created in agricultural sector in the district which would help small, marginal and landless farmers to enhance their income. Sri Ansuman Tripathy, Project Accountant, Tanager briefed the role of his NGO in promoting FPOs for the socio-economic development of people. PadmaShriSabaramatee of Sambhav organisation while inaugurating the ‘Divyalok’ Horticulture and Allied Farmers Producers Company Limited traced on the role of organicfarming in agriculture for income generation and health of the consumer. Padma Sri Batakrushna Sahooinaugurated the ‘Sambalit’ Horticulture and Allied Farmers Producers Company Limited. He expressed his happiness that in Khordha district twomore FPOs are formed in addition to the earlier FPO in fisheries. Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA emphasized on eco-friendly horticulture production in the region. He also urged the farmers to adopt organic farming. He applauded the farmers of the Balipatna block for adopting the advance agricultural practices. Dr. G.S. Saha, Head, Social Science Section, ICAR-CIFA also addressed the gathering. Sri Chandra Mohan Sahoo, ADH Bhubaneswar spoke on the occasion. Sri Ajay Kumar Dash, Scientist, KVK Khordha coordinated the programme. He emphasized on formation of FPOs to eliminate the middlemen in vegetable marketing for profit maximization of the farmers. He also stressed on establishing market outlet for the FPOs. A Farmer-scientists interface was held on this occasion and the queries related to horticulture and Agriculture were addressed.SmtMadhuchhandaMistri, Gender Associate, Tanager shared her experience on FPC forming andalso proposed the vote of thanks. Around 300 farmers and farm women participated in this event following Covid-19 guidelines.
