Cuttack,21/01/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Hrushikesh Mahanta, Ex-VLW-cum-Executive Officer, Chandrasekharprasad GP under Sadar Block, Dist. Dhenkanal, A/p. VLW-cum-Executive Officer, Kankili GP under Parjang Block, Dist. Dhenkanal was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal in Cuttack Vigilance P.S. Case No.75 dt.8.11.2012 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand) from complainant Sri Murali Dehury of village Chandrasekharprasad, PS-Sadar, Dist. Dhenkanal in order to recommend release of 3rd installment under IAY scheme in favour of the complainant.
Wednesday i.e. on 20.1.2021, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal convicted Sri Mahanta and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.2,000/-(Rupees Two Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
