SENIOR CLERK, OFFICE OF EXECUTIVE ENGINEER, DIVISION-I, BHUBANESWAR ARRESTED BY VIGILANCE IN DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE WORTH ABOUT 600% OF KNOWN SOURCES OF INCOME.

Cuttack,23/12/2020 ( Odisha Samachar / Dipti Ranjan Kanungo )- On the allegation of acquisition of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Sri Asit Kumar Nayak, Senior Clerk, office of Executive Engineer, Division-I, Bhubaneswar, his 1) triple-storied residential building at Dumduma, Bhubaneswar, 2) duplex at Jatni, Khordha, 3)  duplex at Berhampur, 4) flat at Berhampur, 5) house at native village Kathapali, Golanthra, Berhampur, and 6) office room at R&B Division-I, Bhubaneswar were simultaneously searched on 22.12.2020 by the officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

In course of search and inventory, Sri Asit Kumar Nayak, Senior Clerk was found in possession of assets worth Rs.5,23,62,100/- (Rupees Five Crores Twenty-three Lakhs Sixty-two Thousand One Hundred) including one triple-storied building, two numbers of duplex, one flat, one single-storied building, four numbers of plots, one four wheeler, one motor cycle, deposits in different banks, gold & silver ornaments, cash of over 10.62 Lakhs and household articles.

After search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Sri Nayak was calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs.4,96,73,122/- (Rupees Four Crores Ninety-six Lakhs Seventy-three Thousand One Hundred twenty-two) which constitutes about 591% of his known sources of income.

As Sri Asit Kumar Nayak, Senior Clerk, office of Executive Engineer, R & B, Division-I, Bhubaneswar was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No.42 dt.23.12.2020 was registered against Sri Nayak U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 for detailed investigation. In course of investigation, today i.e. on 23.12.2020, Sri Nayak has been arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. The Hon’ble Court has remanded him to jail custody till 5.1.2021.

Investigation of the case is in progress.
