Sambalpur/ Bhubaneswar,21/12/2020 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhishek Mohanty) : An elephant was killed after it was run over by Puri-Surat Express train near Bhabanipali between Hatobari and Maneswar railway stations in Sambalpur district late on Sunday night.
As many as six wheels of the train engine derailed after the incident took place.
However, passengers on-board are safe.
The tusker crossing the rail tracks came in front of the train.
Following the mishap, railway communication on the route was disrupted. The Puri-Durg Express was stopped at Jujumura station while Koraput-Bhubaneswar Express was halted at Sambalpur station.
Later, the track was cleared and the train services resumed.
