they cut the cord that tied me to you.<\/span><\/p>\n

They said, \u201cThe baby is separate now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But how could they know<\/span><\/p>\n

that I had never known<\/span><\/p>\n

a world without you?<\/span><\/p>\n

I was suddenly alone<\/span><\/p>\n

no longer wrapped in your warmth,<\/span><\/p>\n

no longer listening to the rhythm<\/span><\/p>\n

of your heartbeat beneath mine.<\/span><\/p>\n

I could not speak,<\/span><\/p>\n

I could not reach for you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I could only cry.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then I heard your voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

your voice was home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your touch became my shelter,<\/span><\/p>\n

your heartbeat,the first music<\/span><\/p>\n

my frightened soul remembered.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cord was gone,<\/span><\/p>\n

but something deeper had begun.<\/span><\/p>\n

before I looked at my wound.<\/span><\/p>\n

my comfort, my courage,<\/span><\/p>\n

my safest place,my mom .<\/span><\/p>\n

Years passed.<\/span><\/p>\n

I learned to walk away from you,<\/span><\/p>\n

to make my own choices,<\/span><\/p>\n

to build a life of my own.<\/span><\/p>\n

But\u00a0 inside me<\/span><\/p>\n

that little child remained,<\/span><\/p>\n

still searching for her mom<\/span><\/p>\n

whenever the world became too loud.<\/span><\/p>\n

The invisible cord<\/span><\/p>\n

was never cut at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

And perhaps that is what<\/span><\/p>\n

a mother and child truly are!!<\/span><\/p>\n

For the world may call me<\/span><\/p>\n

a grown child…<\/span><\/p>\n

But in your presence, Mom,<\/span><\/p>\n

I am still that little one<\/span><\/p>\n

who first opened his eyes<\/span><\/p>\n

and searched for you.<\/span><\/p>\n
