\u00a0Bhubaneswar,2\/4\/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- <\/em>The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha celebrated its\u00a0\u201c35th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Day\u201d<\/em>\u00a0at its Kausalyaganga Campus, Bhubaneswar today. \"\"The premier research institute on freshwater aquaculture in the country had begun its journey as an institute in the year 1987 under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Dr. A E Eknath, Former Director, ICAR-CIFA &FormerDG, NACA, Bangkokgraced the occasion as Chief Guest. Fisheries as a subject has come a long way and contributions from research institutes like CIFA have been immense. No subject can grow if it is not backed by adequate research both in frontier areas as well as in applied areas.\"\"<\/p>\n

Prof. S K Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor, F.M. University,Balasore&Dr.\u00a0 B K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackporegraced the occasion as special guest. Dr Tripathy lauded the research efforts of ICAR-CIFA and wished close collaboration with the Institute including students and faculty exchange for mutual gain. Dr Das stressed on research application especially among socio-economically backward sections. Poverty and malnutrition could be reduced to a great extent through promotion of aquaculture in tribal and far flung areas. Shri B.K. Sinha, Chief Administrative Officer, ICAR-CIFA also addressed the gathering.<\/h6>\n

The dignitaries also released 4 booklets entitled\u00a0Farmer first project- significant achievements; CIFA in Media; Genetically Improved Catla;\u00a0 Nutrition, Health and Feeding of Carps<\/em>during the occasion.Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.K. Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA highlighted the Institute\u2019s role in developing farm-worthy technologies and hand holding the state line departments in promoting scientific aquaculture. Matsya Setu app has got a user base of 32000 and an upgraded version of this app with additional features like marketplaceaqua-bazar<\/em> to connect all stakeholders in a single platform and a Chatbot (I\u2019m Meena)<\/em> to provide interactive solutions to the users will be released very soon. ICAR -CIFA is dedicated to its stakeholders across the country through Flagship Schemes under Government of India like SCSP, STC and NEH. The beneficiaries are guided through demonstration, training and providing the critical inputs for sustainable freshwater aquaculture. CIFA annual awards were also distributed by the guests on this occasion.\"\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
