The<br \/>\nobjectives are genuine and powerful, and the characters are passionate and<br \/>\ninspiring. Yet, many NGOs are not leveraging this channel to communicate their<br \/>\nimpact and it&#8217;s simply hard to write a well-told story.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Digital transformation has impacted the<br \/>\nmarketing and communications industry.\u00a0 NGOs<br \/>\nagree that a data-driven content communication is essential but consider that implementing<br \/>\ndata-driven marketing is somehow beyond reach.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>NGOs showed they are<br \/>\neager to adapt a data-driven mindset in setting up digital campaigns to create<br \/>\nmore engaging communications of their mission and vision to the public, yet the<br \/>\ndigital skills know-how in nonprofits is largely limited and creates additional<br \/>\nchallenges in analyzing big data in marketing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, under the<b> Jockey Club Engage Digital Exploration (JC<br \/>\nENGAGE)<\/b> organized by Asian Charity Services (ACS) and funded by The Hong<br \/>\nKong Jockey Club Charities Trust, we were privileged to serve 125 NGO leaders, equipping<br \/>\ntheir teams with basic skills in video storytelling and digital campaigns for<br \/>\nmore effective digital communication capabilities. Through the JC ENGAGE<br \/>\njourney, the teams gained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thoughtful<br \/>\ninsights and frameworks into creating effective communication strategies for<br \/>\nthe nonprofit sector<\/li>\n<li>Training<br \/>\nand resources from communications professional <\/li>\n<li>Customized<br \/>\nassistance and advisory services from pro bono skill-based volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Highlights from JC ENGAGE participants:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Deepening understanding around developing clear<br \/>\nand measurable objectives and strategy based on factual\/data-driven knowledge<br \/>\nof the market and our donors and audience.&#8221; <br \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Our biggest takeaway is the startup model and<br \/>\nstrategies of crafting a story. We only created videos from our existing skills<br \/>\nin the past, and now we have learned to narrow down the target audience to<br \/>\nimprove effectiveness. We also learned how people from other fields think in<br \/>\nthe workshops, which was invaluable. The workshop materials were practical and<br \/>\nhelped us execute our plan step by step.&#8221; <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;We seldom have the chance to stand behind the<br \/>\ncamera and create a video from scratch ourselves. We did this thanks to JC<br \/>\nENGAGE. After the workshops, we found that we could publish the video already, and<br \/>\nreadily promote our message of aging-in-place to the public. It also means a<br \/>\nlot to us that we invited service users to share their real-life experiences<br \/>\nand bring focus to their perspectives to be shared with the public.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Looking Forward 2022:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The pandemic has shaken the world in the past 24 months and embracing<br \/>\ndigital is a non-negotiable part of any organizational strategy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s no longer about striving to be online<br \/>\nbut how to thrive.\u00a0 Nonprofits need<br \/>\nstrategies to launch hybrid fundraising events, reaching donors virtually using<br \/>\npowerful video content to make a strong emotional connection as well as<br \/>\nexploring the data insights the online channels can bring to be more efficient<br \/>\nand focused. Nonprofits need to have a digital strategy as part of their game<br \/>\nplan to thrive in the new normal. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Our team will launch a large-scale online digital survey to build<br \/>\nstronger partnerships and an understanding of Hong Kong NGOs&#8217; digital marketing<br \/>\nlandscape. \u00a0The research will help<br \/>\nhighlight the needs and guide the focus areas for the nonprofit sector. JC<br \/>\nENGAGE team is enthusiastic to be part of the drive to build digital capacity<br \/>\nin the ecosystem. The journey goes beyond the training but community support to<br \/>\ncreate capacity and to convene more resources. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nonprofits often lack investment in marketing and technology, creating<br \/>\nconstraints in digital transformation. Skilled volunteering is a powerful way<br \/>\nto bridge the technical gap between nonprofits and the digital world.
