\nCouncil (SFIC) <\/b>said
\nthe trade association and its members will plan and execute a more systematic strategy
\nto create a truly
\nsustainable ecosystem. It will ride on its industry strengths to enable its ecosystem
\nto commit to leadership and advocacy in international markets.<\/p>\nThe
\nindustry also wants to deliver more creative solutions for high-density urban
\nenvironments. <\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Within the next\u00a0
\nfour years, the vision is to transform Singapore’s furniture industry
\ninto a regional hub for best sustainability practices in ASEAN, facilitating
\ncapacity building and knowledge sharing within the region. Aligned to this is
\nthe pursuit to become a leader in regulatory standards and compliance,
\nespecially in the interior fit-out sub-segment of the built-environment.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The fresh push by SFIC comes on the back of a
\njust-completed industry engagement exercise. In this effort, members said they view
\nsustainable business practices as a greenfield opportunity and will collaborate
\nas an industry to further understand how to achieve demand and supply side
\nleadership. Case studies from selected
\ncountries were also undertaken to further enrich the industry understanding and
\ndirection. <\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
SFIC President Mr Phua
\nBoon Huat said: “The Singapore Furniture Industries Council’s strategic roadmap
\nis anchored on our industry’s competitive advantage in creating solutions for
\nhigh-density urban environments, as well as our reputation for high quality
\ngoods and services.”<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Phua added that the
\nroad ahead for its industry is one that embraces sustainable transformation and
\na commitment to leadership and advocacy for stronger action within the furniture
\nindustry. Singapore’s furniture industry has a unique edge as it leads the
\nforefront of creating holistic living spaces within high-density urban
\nenvironments, he said. <\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n(Lifestyle & Consumer) Ms Dilys Boey: “SFIC’s 2025 Furniture Industry
\nRoadmap will help guide furniture businesses build capabilities and capture new
\nopportunities with shifting consumer preferences and expectations. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Through our Enterprise Sustainability Programme, Enterprise
\nSingapore is pleased to support SFIC in its plans to build understanding and
\nsupport businesses, build capability and embrace the demands as well as
\nopportunities that the sustainability agenda brings,” she said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The industry
\nassociation aims to deliver this goal through five strategic thrusts.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
First, as the lead
\nindustry association, the SFIC will invest in building sustainability
\ncapability into its ranks through education, awareness and capacity building to
\nempower them to seed this direction into the industry. This will include a
\nreview and uplifting of existing practices, building up masterclasses and
\nestablishing a dedicated team to champion sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Second, SFIC will champion the sustainability pursuit and engage
\nstakeholders, including members of the public and consumers, investors,
\npartners to embrace the SFIC vision.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Third, SFIC will lead
\nthe way to establish strategic partnerships nationally, regionally and
\ninternationally to develop a network and presence physically and digitally. On
\nthe cards is the plan to roll out a SFIC Green Inner Circle and an
\nInternational Sustainability Leader Programme to foster connections and
\ncollaborations between local and international furniture leaders on
\nsustainability.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fourth, the goal is to
\ndevelop an industry-wide robust system for quality assurance, continued
\nengagement and compliance with sustainability practices. This will take the
\nform of delivering more appropriate assessment tools for companies,
\ncertification schemes and support for sustainability transformation programmes
\nwithin members. <\/p>\n
Fifth, with
\ncollaboration as a key element, there will be fresh opportunities in\u00a0 the co-solutioning and piloting of ideas for
\nsustainability partnerships between members and beyond, to help the industry to
\nbe at the forefront of innovation for sustainable furniture.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
SFIC
\nhas just also assumed the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Furniture Industries
\nCouncil (AFIC) with the aim of further strengthening intra-ASEAN trade and its
\ncompetitive advantage in the global market. The eight-member organisation also
\naims to adopt more green practices on its journey in pursuing sustainable
\nbusiness development. <\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prior
\nto this roadmap announcement, SFIC announced in November 2021 that it will collaborate
\nwith the Singapore
\nBusiness Federation and the Singapore Green Building Council. Together, they
\nformed the Alliance for Action (AfA) to bring together stakeholders across
\ndifferent sectors to create and enhance sustainable spaces.<\/p>\n
