For 2022 and beyond, Lenovo is offering a range of predictions<br \/>\nthat incorporate what has been learned in the past year, to improve future<br \/>\nproducts and services. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Intensely<br \/>\nhybrid working models, a focus on carbon neutrality and the environment, and a<br \/>\nneed for more comfortable, intuitive ways to operate our technology all set the<br \/>\ntone for the following emerging trends.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><b>Work-from-anywhere technology,<br \/>\nnow broadly available, will expose a growing divide. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Just<br \/>\nas the use of video conference software accelerated during the past year&#8217;s<br \/>\nwork-from-home, successful companies in Asia Pacific will accelerate the<br \/>\nadoption of improved infrastructure and services that enable smarter, more<br \/>\nflexible work. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Important<br \/>\ninnovations that will make this happen include upgrades in artificial<br \/>\nintelligence, which is getting better at removing the daily background noise of<br \/>\nan Asian city, improving privacy, and connecting seamlessly. Augmented reality will<br \/>\nalso have a role to play, by concentrating information intelligently and<br \/>\nconveniently for the user. Remote desktop solutions,<br \/>\nespecially those that unite employees under cloud-like services with<br \/>\nenterprise-level security, enable employees&#8217; work while providing them<br \/>\nnecessary IT support wherever they are. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other<br \/>\ncompanies, held back by legacy systems, will resist these changes in the hope<br \/>\nof going back to &#8220;the way it was&#8221; \u2013 and will find it more and more difficult to<br \/>\nfoster an engaged employee workplace \u2013 especially given Asia&#8217;s younger, more<br \/>\ndiverse workforce.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><b>Sustainability will become<br \/>\na leading factor in tech innovation and design.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>2021<br \/>\nwas the year that Asia Pacific got serious about sustainability. In 2021<br \/>\nOctober, Hong Kong Government announced Hong Kong&#8217;s Climate Action Plan 2050, outlining<br \/>\nthe strategies and targets for combating climate change and achieving carbon neutrality<br \/>\nin 2050[1].<br \/>\nIn the past, sustainability was a second-tier consideration in design and<br \/>\ninnovation for technology products, if it was considered at all; now, it will<br \/>\nplay a leading role.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sustainable<br \/>\nmaterials will experience a jump in popularity in manufacturing locations<br \/>\naround the region, and become more available for product development. The<br \/>\nproducts that find success in the future will incorporate recycled plastics,<br \/>\nfibers and metals; self-decomposing materials like bioplastics; and renewable<br \/>\nsources like bamboo \u2013 where Asia has an obvious advantage. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At<br \/>\nthe same time, societal considerations will grow in importance, including the<br \/>\naccessibility and suitability of technology for a broad range of users.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><b>Security will finally<br \/>\nstart to move away from over-reliance on passwords.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>AI<br \/>\nand improved sensor technology will move to the forefront, as passwords take a<br \/>\nbackseat. Near-term, public key infrastructure (PKI) \u2013 what we use today to<br \/>\naccess our mobile banking applications \u2013 and multifactor authentication (MFA)<br \/>\nwill alleviate our reliance on passwords. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nsensors that power biometrics \u2013 fingerprint, facial, iris and voice<br \/>\nauthentication \u2013 will start to take on greater responsibility for our security<br \/>\nonline and with our devices during the coming year. This will play an<br \/>\nadditional role in making technology more accessible and with multiple levels<br \/>\nof literacy.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><b>Computers will<br \/>\nquietly, and steadily, become more human.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Humans<br \/>\nare not designed for long hours sitting in front of screens and typing on<br \/>\nkeyboards \u2013 but today, many people spend the majority of their waking hours<br \/>\ninteracting with technology. New designs will help slowly transition that<br \/>\nrelationship towards designs that work with \u2013 not against \u2013 human physiology. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In<br \/>\n2022 and beyond, instead of a focus on keyboards and touchpads, expect to see more<br \/>\nflexible display options, ergonomic mice, haptic feedback, voice-to-text (and<br \/>\nvice versa), and more intuitive forms of input involving artificial<br \/>\nintelligence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\npast year has signaled a major shift in the way that we use technology in our<br \/>\ndaily lives. While we can look forward to these changes in the coming year, we<br \/>\ncan also see them as the beginning of a more gradual shift that will take place<br \/>\nbeyond 2022.
