SINGAPORE – Media OutReach<\/a> – 20 December 2021 – Independent
\nphilanthropic
\norganisation founded by Mr. and Mrs. Sukanto Tanoto, Tanoto Foundation and
\nBusiness China Singapore inked a partnership to support Singapore businesses
\nthat are or will be operating in China. The partnership is aimed to support
\nBusiness China’s programmes with a strong focus on: business leadership development,
\nstrengthening the talent pipeline and supporting Singapore-China relations.

Tanoto Foundation is bolstering
\nthese initiatives with a donation of S$1 million for the following five main
\nprogrammes over the next five years<\/b>:<\/p>\n

    Distinguished Leaders Dialogue Series<\/b>:<\/i> Business
    \nChina’s
    \nflagship dialogue series, featuring Singapore’s eminent political leaders as
    \nspeakers to share their invaluable insights on pertinent issues and trends
    \nrelated to China and ASEAN.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Prominent Business Leaders Dialogue Series<\/b>:<\/i> Business
    \nChina’s flagship dialogue series featuring prominent business leaders who are Business
    \nChina’s members from diverse industries, to share perspectives, engage and
    \nfoster deeper links among members.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Advanced Leaders Programme<\/b>:<\/i> participants,
    \nincluding high potential public officers, Young Business Leaders and next
    \ngeneration business leaders from Singapore and China, attend classes and visit
    \ncompanies in Singapore and China for an experiential learning journey.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Advanced Leaders Programme Alumni Engagement
    \nActivities<\/b><\/i> by Business China Advanced Leaders
    \nAlumni Club Executive Committee.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    The Youth Interns Exchange Scheme<\/b>:<\/i> A
    \nscholarship scheme awarded by Tanoto Foundation to students who are placed on
    \nthe scheme and via internship placements in China.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Business China CEO Ms Tin Pei Ling
    \nsaid: “We are grateful to the Tanoto Foundation for its donation of S$1 million
    \nto Business China over the next five years. Their generosity will go a long way
    \nin supporting our efforts to cultivate new generations of bilingual and
    \nbicultural Singaporeans. Business China will also continue to work closely with
    \nstrategic partners to offer premium opportunities and platforms for learning
    \nand collaboration so as to cultivate Singapore-China-savvy talents, build
    \nnetworks and deepen relations to catalyse future bilateral cooperation.”<\/p>\n

    \nat Tanoto Foundation said: “At the heart of what we do is to improve people’s lives is through knowledge and education.
    \nBusiness China is an excellent platform that enables current and future business
    \nleaders to share knowledge, learnings and experiences through its curated
    \nprogrammes. It is timely for Tanoto Foundation to provide an extra boost to
    \nthese initiatives during a time when Singapore businesses and their leaders are
    \nlooking to rebuild from the impact of COVID-19.”<\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

    With operations in Indonesia, China and Singapore,
    \nTanoto Foundation\u00a0focuses on three main pillars namely: 1) leveraging
    \neducation to accelerate equal opportunities, 2) developing the next generation
    \nof leaders, and 3) supporting medical research and healthcare to improve health
    \nstandards \u2013 all with a common outcome of improving lives. Tanoto Foundation’s\u00a0 donation to
    \nBusiness China is part of its commitment to develop future leaders across Asia.
    \nIt has designed and implemented holistic leadership development programmes for
    \nselect tertiary students in Singapore and Indonesia, and continues to support
    \ninternational talent development training programmes through China’s Belt and
    \nRoad Initiative.<\/p>\n

    In Singapore, Tanoto Foundation
    \nhas partnered universities including National University of Singapore, Nanyang
    \nTechnological University and Singapore Management University to provide
    \nscholarships through a S$7 million endowment fund. In terms of medical philanthropy,
    \nit donated a total of S$16m in support of
    \nmedical research and initiatives including the establishment of professorships
    \nin diabetes, oncology and cardiology research; the formation of Viral Research
    \nand Experimental Medicine Centre with SingHealth Duke-NUS; and the launch of
    \nthe Tanoto Foundation Centre for Child and Maternal Health Programmes with KK
    \nWomen’s and Children’s Hospital to drive research in early child health and
    \nmaternal health.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    Business China, a non-profit
    \norganisation, was launched on 19 November 2007 by Singapore late Founding Prime
    \nMinister Mr Lee Kuan Yew and then Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. Its mission is to
    \nnurture an inclusive bilingual and bicultural group of Singaporeans through
    \nextensive use of the Chinese language as the medium of communication, to
    \nsustain Singapore’s multi-cultural heritage, and to develop a cultural and
    \neconomic bridge linking the world and China. Harnessing the support of the
    \npublic sector and private enterprises, Business China aims to strengthen the
    \nties between Singapore and China, through a series of activities and
    \ninitiatives.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n
