Combining Carousell&#8217;s reach of 1 in 5 Hong<br \/>\nKongers as active users with ready buyer intent, and the established expertise<br \/>\nof partners, Carousell aims to build an ecosystem that enables small local<br \/>\nbusinesses to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many small businesses continue to face\u00a0 high cost challenges, such as rent, cash<br \/>\nflow, resource management and data security, even before the pandemic. These<br \/>\nchallenges are even more severe currently. Although the Hong Kong Government<br \/>\nhas been actively encouraging digitalisation and ecommerce, small businesses<br \/>\nstill struggle to adapt to new technology and business models compared to<br \/>\nlarge-scale enterprises. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Growing demand for<br \/>\nmore support<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Trade and Industry Department estimates about 340,000<br \/>\nSMEs in Hong Kong, of which 13% are in retail<sup><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/sup>.<br \/>\nThere is increasing impetus to go online, as online retail sales grow in Hong<br \/>\nKong. While online sales only accounted for 8% of total retail sales in<br \/>\nOctober, when comparing the first ten months of 2021 with the same period in<br \/>\n2020, Censtatd estimated that the value of online retail sales increased by<br \/>\n41.7%<sup><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unlike large corporations who can hire the necessary<br \/>\ntalent, smaller merchants need easy-to-use, affordable tools and<br \/>\n&#8220;plug-and-play&#8221; services that allow them to scale at low cost and without a lot<br \/>\nof training. Demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/college.carousell.com\/zh-hk\/caroubiz\/\">CarouBiz<\/a> subscriptions of premium seller tools<br \/>\nhave increased sharply in Hong Kong in 2021 compared to last year.
