The prize&#13;<br \/>\npresentation ceremony was successfully held today at the &#8216;Learning &amp;&#13;<br \/>\nTeaching Expo 2021&#8217;, graced by the presence of the officiating guest,<b> the&#13;<br \/>\nUnder Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk Lin, JP<\/b>. Dr Choi presented the&#13;<br \/>\nawards to seven groups of awardees, recognising their great efforts and&#13;<br \/>\ncontributions to driving educational reform.<\/p>\n<p>A series of themed seminars were also&#13;<br \/>\nheld, which gathered all awardees of the Innovative Teacher Award to exchange&#13;<br \/>\nideas on successful factors and outcomes of innovative education and explore&#13;<br \/>\nhow they utilise technology in transforming the curriculum and teaching&#13;<br \/>\nstrategies, in response to the current pandemic and the new normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">While&#13;<br \/>\nthe ceremony was witnessed by a bunch of guests, <b>Mr Victor Cheng, Executive&#13;<br \/>\nDirector of Hong Kong Education City <\/b>kick-started the ceremony. In his&#13;<br \/>\nspeech, he said: &#8216;The pandemic has lasted for almost 2 years and has brought&#13;<br \/>\ndramatic changes to education. <i>eLearning<\/i>, <i>Blended learning<\/i>, <i>Innovative&#13;<br \/>\nLearning Design<\/i> are no longer unfamiliar concepts to us, educators have&#13;<br \/>\ngradually adapted to the new normal and transformed it with new teaching&#13;<br \/>\nstrategies. The performance of this year&#8217;s participants is brilliant, with&#13;<br \/>\ndiversified and vibrant learning designs, which demonstrated their innovative&#13;<br \/>\nperspective. We are thrilled to witness fellow educators are flexible in&#13;<br \/>\nutilising technology and creative teaching methods, which boosted teaching&#13;<br \/>\nefficacy and unleashed student&#8217;s potential. EdCity hopes the &#8220;<i>Innovative&#13;<br \/>\nTeaching Award&#8221;<\/i> could encourage the education sector to&#13;<br \/>\ncontinuously innovate teaching pedagogies, foster professional exchanges among teachers,&#13;<br \/>\nand work shoulder to shoulder for the vision of future ready education.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">The officiating&#13;<br \/>\nguest, <b>Dr Choi Yuk Lin, JP, the Under Secretary for Education<\/b>, said, &#8216;In&#13;<br \/>\nthe new era of education, teachers have to embrace innovative education through&#13;<br \/>\nthe optimal use of technologies and innovative pedagogies to enhance teaching&#13;<br \/>\neffectiveness and unleash students&#8217; potential.&#8217; Dr Choi continued to congratulate&#13;<br \/>\nand thank all awardees for their hard work, &#8216;They have successfully introduced&#13;<br \/>\ninnovation to education and improved effectiveness in learning, teaching and&#13;<br \/>\nassessment by harnessing technologies that are supported by education theories&#13;<br \/>\nand innovative pedagogies. Their exceptional achievements fully deserve the&#13;<br \/>\ndistinguished awards.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">The&#13;<br \/>\npandemic has resulted in a vibrant scene of innovative education. The&#13;<br \/>\ncompetition saw the enthusiastic participation of educators from primary and&#13;<br \/>\nsecondary schools and from a wide spectrum of professional expertise. Introductory&#13;<br \/>\nvideos and briefs on their teaching philosophies and strategies were submitted&#13;<br \/>\nmonths ago. A judging panel consisting of professors, veteran principals and&#13;<br \/>\neducation experts evaluated the submissions and selected a total of seven&#13;<br \/>\ngroups of primary and secondary school teachers as recipients of the award&#13;<br \/>\n(details of the awardees available in the background) for honouring their&#13;<br \/>\nefforts on driving curriculum reform through innovative teaching. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph\">This&#13;<br \/>\nyear&#8217;s ITA has introduced team awards in addition to the pre-existing&#13;<br \/>\nindividual awards. He addressed the impacts of the pandemic, redesigned&#13;<br \/>\n  the curriculum, promoted blended learning and increased the proportion of&#13;<br \/>\n  self-directed learning. Students could design&#13;<br \/>\n  graphic questions on their own, which improved their problem-solving skills&#13;<br \/>\n  and boosted creativity. Through interesting videos and&#13;<br \/>\n  livestreaming, they show various themes including Culture, Arts, Sports,&#13;<br \/>\n  Spiritual, Skills and Technology, which increased students&#8217; motivation to&#13;<br \/>\n  learn during and after the pandemic. The themes are curriculum relevant, but&#13;<br \/>\n  also includes non-academic knowledge, such as career planning, value&#13;<br \/>\n  education, which help students to build a positive value system. The video&#13;<br \/>\n  ideas are taken from daily life, and diversified teaching themes allow&#13;<br \/>\n  students to taste different experiences in a relaxing and interesting learning&#13;<br \/>\n  environment. For example, &#8216;Teacher&#8217;s Kitchen&#8217; allows students to learn about&#13;<br \/>\n  Hakka culture or incorporating stretching exercises into mathematics to&#13;<br \/>\n  promote exercising at home.
