The event brought together hundreds of educators,<br \/>\nsocial workers, government officials, social entrepreneurs and young people to<br \/>\nexamine critically the health and wellbeing issues affecting young people in<br \/>\nHong Kong. Various perspectives, ranging from policy, service and social innovation<br \/>\nto finding solutions for building a more inclusive and pluralistic society,<br \/>\nwere explored through online seminars, creative experiential workshops and<br \/>\ninteractive sharing sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Officiating at the opening session of<br \/>\nthe Hong Kong Dialogue were: Mr. Chris Fung, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhb.gov.hk\/en\/aboutus\/org\/pash3.htm\">Principal Assistant Secretary for Food and Health of the<\/a> Hong Kong SAR Government; Ms Susan Kwek,<br \/>\nManaging Director and Head of Operations &amp; Technology at Citi Hong Kong;<br \/>\nMr. Beniam Gebrezghi, Programme Specialist of Youth and Civic Engagement of the<br \/>\nUnited Nations Development Programme Bangkok Regional Hub; and Mr. Chua Hoi<br \/>\nWai, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong Dialogue is one of 11 Youth<br \/>\nCo:Lab national dialogues being held around the region this year. Youth Co:Lab,<br \/>\nwhich was co-created in 2017 by Citi Foundation and the United Nations<br \/>\nDevelopment Programme (UNDP), is the largest youth social entrepreneurship<br \/>\nmovement in Asia Pacific and aims to drive a shared agenda for Asia-Pacific<br \/>\ncountries to empower young people to accelerate the implementation of the<br \/>\nUnited Nations&#8217; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social<br \/>\ninnovation and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Chris Fung, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhb.gov.hk\/en\/aboutus\/org\/pash3.htm\" title=\"Principal Assistant Secretary for Food and Health (Health) 3\">Principal Assistant Secretary for Food and Health of the <\/a>Hong Kong SAR Government remarked: &#8220;Youth<br \/>\nis an exciting yet turbulent stage in life, especially when it is coupled with<br \/>\nthe unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the<br \/>\nGovernment has spared no effort to handle the mental health needs and wellbeing<br \/>\nof our young people.<\/p>\n<p>The Government has been adopting an<br \/>\nintegrated and multi-disciplinary approach towards mental health. Other than<br \/>\ntreatment, we also focus on promotion, prevention, early identification, timely<br \/>\nintervention, and rehabilitation. In doing so, we rely not only on the support<br \/>\nof our healthcare professionals, but also of other key stakeholders in the<br \/>\nsociety, including professionals in the social welfare and education sectors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Susan Kwek,<br \/>\nManaging Director and Head of Operations &amp; Technology, Citi Hong Kong,<br \/>\nsaid: &#8220;We are excited to bring Hong Kong Dialogue to the city and to engage<br \/>\nyouth social entrepreneurs and people from different walks of life together to<br \/>\ndiscuss their opportunities as well as the social challenges that the city is<br \/>\nfacing. Citi Foundation will continue investing in Youth Co:Lab to reach more<br \/>\nyoung people across the Asia Pacific, to deepen mentorship capacity for youth<br \/>\nentrepreneurs through the Springboard program and to engage ecosystem partners<br \/>\nin the development of young people&#8217;s future skills training.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Beniam<br \/>\nGebrezghi, Programme Specialist of Youth and Civic Engagement of the United<br \/>\nNations Development Programme Bangkok Regional Hub, remarked: &#8220;The inspirations<br \/>\nwe receive and actions we take today will ensure we are better placed to<br \/>\nrespond to the challenges of tomorrow.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Under the new normal, it is inevitable that people<br \/>\nwill be under pressure to adapt to a new lifestyle. We hope the Hong Kong<br \/>\nDialogue can create a platform to bring the issue of youth mental health and<br \/>\nwell-being to the forefront, and find answers together,&#8221; said Mr. Hoi Wai Chua,<br \/>\nthe Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. &#8220;In recent<br \/>\nyears, we have noticed young people expressing their aspirations through<br \/>\ndifferent creative approaches, engaging in social innovation and community<br \/>\nprogrammes. We hope this year&#8217;s Hong Kong Dialogue will showcase the<br \/>\nmulti-faceted nature of young people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Youth Co:Lab &#8220;Hong Kong Dialogue&#8221; was held from December 3 to 4. The<br \/>\nevent included a series of online seminars, sharing sessions and creative experiential<br \/>\nworkshops to explore how young people can prepare themselves to cope with adversity<br \/>\nand rise to the challenges of the new normal. It also covered the impact of<br \/>\nsocial innovation and how it can help build a resilient society.<\/p>\n<p>A number of scholars in the field of adolescent mental<br \/>\nhealth were invited to attend the keynote session, including Professor Eric<br \/>\nChen, Chair Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, University of Hong Kong<br \/>\n(HKU), and Dr. To Siu Ming, Associate Professor of the Department of Social<br \/>\nWork, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In the keynote session, the two<br \/>\nacademics shared their key research findings on the stress and mental health<br \/>\nrisks young people face in the context of social change, as well as innovative<br \/>\nways in which society can reconnect to its young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Young social entrepreneurs from different parts of Asia<br \/>\nPacific and young people with non-mainstream aspirations were invited to share<br \/>\ntheir experiences on how to live out their values through different forms of<br \/>\nsocial innovation and contribute to the promotion of social inclusion and<br \/>\ndiversity. In addition, a number of local social innovation groups organized a<br \/>\nvariety of creative experiential workshops, utilizing music, art, and sports to<br \/>\nexplore issues of youth wellbeing and mental health.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over<br \/>\nthe last four years, Youth Co:Lab has been implemented in 28 countries and<br \/>\nterritories across the region, reaching over 202,000 participants. The<br \/>\ninitiative has benefitted more than 9,500 young social entrepreneurs and helped<br \/>\nlaunch or improve nearly 1,240 social enterprises. Youth Co:Lab has also<br \/>\nestablished partnerships with more than 200 key ecosystem players to strengthen<br \/>\nthe Youth Empowerment Alliance.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1yi5aK7H9TjEfIi2IdyuiP2eScSl2QDH0\/view?usp=sharing\">Photo caption<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This<br \/>\nyear&#8217;s Youth Co:Lab &#8220;Hong Kong Dialogue&#8221;, with the theme of &#8220;Youth&#8217;s Wellbeing<br \/>\nand Health&#8221;, has now successfully concluded.
