Global and regional public&#13;<br \/>\nsector leaders also shared their perspectives on the future of work and the&#13;<br \/>\ncritical need for digital skills in the civil service. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is truly momentous. This partnership is the&#13;<br \/>\nfirst of its kind for us at Microsoft. APAC countries have undoubtedly&#13;<br \/>\nwitnessed the pivotal role of technology in job creation, staying competitive,&#13;<br \/>\nand ensuring business and economic continuity at the height of the pandemic. In&#13;<br \/>\nAPAC, we&#8217;re bringing this digital-first agenda to life in many of our markets.&#13;<br \/>\nEarly this year we launched <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/id-id\/2021\/02\/25\/microsoft-to-establish-first-datacenter-region-in-indonesia-as-part-of-berdayakan-digital-economy-indonesia-initiative\/\">Berdayakan&#13;<br \/>\nIndonesia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/en-my\/2021\/04\/19\/microsoft-announces-plans-to-establish-its-first-datacenter-region-in-malaysia-as-part-of-bersama-malaysia-initiative-to-support-inclusive-economic-growth\/\">Bersama&#13;<br \/>\nMalaysia<\/a> initiatives to support the countries&#8217; national digital&#13;<br \/>\ntransformation plans. As part of this, we committed to skill millions of people&#13;<br \/>\nin both countries.\u00a0There has never been a better time to bring government&#13;<br \/>\nleaders together to plan for the next phase of APAC&#8217;s economic recovery and to&#13;<br \/>\nbuild resilience,&#8221; said Jean-Philippe Courtois, Executive Vice President and&#13;<br \/>\nPresident, National Transformation Partnerships, Microsoft. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Advancing national recovery and resilience with Cloud&#13;<br \/>\nand Artificial Intelligence<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In a recent survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit,&#13;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/transformationimperative.economist.com\/government\/\">8 out of&#13;<br \/>\n10 government respondents noted increases in digital investments since the&#13;<br \/>\npandemic<\/a>. They acknowledged the role of digital transformation in keeping&#13;<br \/>\ncitizens healthy and safe, with the pandemic underscoring the importance of&#13;<br \/>\nthis work.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This global pandemic has&#13;<br \/>\nmade ever more apparent one of the most powerful and quietly pervasive&#13;<br \/>\nunderlying trends of our lifetime:\u00a0 The&#13;<br \/>\nimperative for ever greater digitisation. It is not just public health&#13;<br \/>\ndisruptions, but also economic and social forces driving the world in that&#13;<br \/>\ndirection. To advance, we need new ways to build trust and collaboration among&#13;<br \/>\nprivate industry and public service leaders. This APAC Leaders Digital Alliance&#13;<br \/>\nwill do exactly that, by bringing together expert knowledge and insightful&#13;<br \/>\nthinking,&#8221; said Danny Quah, Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics and Dean, Lee&#13;<br \/>\nKuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/transformationimperative.economist.com\/government\/\">transformation&#13;<br \/>\nimperative<\/a> study by The Economist revealed that in APAC, technology enabling&#13;<br \/>\neconomic recovery remains top of mind for governments and organizations in the&#13;<br \/>\nregion. Digitally prepared government agencies were able to better navigate the&#13;<br \/>\nupheavals and challenges presented by the pandemic.\u202fInvesting in digital&#13;<br \/>\ntransformation will ensure the resiliency of government operations in preparing&#13;<br \/>\nfor any future scenarios.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idc.com\/getdoc.jsp?containerId=PRF004843\">Gerald Wang<\/a>,&#13;<br \/>\nHead of IDC Asia Pacific Public Sector shares,<b> <\/b>&#8220;Today, many&#13;<br \/>\nnations, cities, and communities are charting into unprecedented digital&#13;<br \/>\necosystems as countries cautiously open their borders. The past 2 years of&#13;<br \/>\ndigital adoption for public sector services, and its pervasive use has been&#13;<br \/>\nextraordinary. As we move into 2022, conversations of world leaders are across&#13;<br \/>\nthree broad concerns of security, supply chain crisis, and sustainability and&#13;<br \/>\nIT leaders would do well to consider the following: digital cognizance and&#13;<br \/>\nawareness through public policies and regulations; digital asset governance;&#13;<br \/>\ndigital investments and traceable performance metrics for constituents&#8217; and&#13;<br \/>\ntaxpayers&#8217; accountability; and continually innovating with emerging&#13;<br \/>\ntechnologies like 5G, next-gen cloud computing, cybersecurity, blockchain,&#13;<br \/>\nAR\/VR, IoT and edge computing, and quantum computing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Charting the&#13;<br \/>\nnext steps for the APAC Leaders Digital Alliance <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Based on the insights and recommendations shared&#13;<br \/>\nduring this inaugural dialogue, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and&#13;<br \/>\nthe School of Continuing and Lifelong Education at the National University of&#13;<br \/>\nSingapore will develop a paper focused on national recovery and the digital&#13;<br \/>\neconomy. The paper is intended to serve as a roadmap for the participating&#13;<br \/>\ncountries to accelerate the next steps needed for economic recovery and digital&#13;<br \/>\nintegration. It will be published in early 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As our countries forge ahead toward a post-pandemic&#13;<br \/>\nworld, Microsoft is committed to supporting governments as a trusted strategic&#13;<br \/>\ntechnology advisor and provider as they harness the power of Cloud and AI for&#13;<br \/>\ninclusive national economic recovery and resilience.
