Compared to a year ago, Asia Pacific consumers were&#13;<br \/>\nsplit over whether the state of their health is better or worse. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/182904\/Final-Artwork.jpg#image-182904\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For those who saw a deterioration in their physical health in the past 12&#13;<br \/>\nmonths, seven in ten (69%) attributed it to the lack of physical activity,&#13;<br \/>\nfollowed by eating more unhealthy food (36%) and lack of community support to&#13;<br \/>\nkeep up with exercise regimen (26%). When it comes to mental health deterioration,&#13;<br \/>\nthe key reasons included stress over work uncertainties (54%), staying home&#13;<br \/>\nmore often due to movement restrictions (53%), and the lack of social&#13;<br \/>\ninteractions (42%). <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the respondents&#13;<br \/>\nwho saw an improvement in their physical and mental health compared to 12&#13;<br \/>\nmonths ago, the common contributing factor was more exercise. Other factors&#13;<br \/>\nincluded consumption of healthier meals, community support and more personal&#13;<br \/>\ntime and space.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pandemic has&#13;<br \/>\ndampened people&#8217;s enthusiasm and energy. However, there is a high awareness of&#13;<br \/>\nthe crucial role that regular exercise, healthy eating and community support&#13;<br \/>\nplay in enabling better overall well-being. This points to an urgent need for&#13;<br \/>\nus to motivate consumers to take back their health, and move forward with a&#13;<br \/>\nhealthy, active lifestyle supported by good nutrition,&#8221; said Stephen Conchie,&#13;<br \/>\nSenior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific.&#13;<br \/>\n&#8220;With our Virtual Run and Get Moving with Good Nutrition campaign back for the&#13;<br \/>\nsecond year running, we are bringing together the key elements of physical&#13;<br \/>\nactivity, better nutrition choices and an uplifting community to help people&#13;<br \/>\nrestart their healthy living journey.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Conducted in July and August 2021, Herbalife Nutrition&#8217;s <i>Asia Pacific Health Inertia Survey 2021 <\/i>polled&#13;<br \/>\n5,496 consumers aged 18 and above in 11 Asia Pacific markets, including Australia,&#13;<br \/>\nHong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan,&#13;<br \/>\nThailand and Vietnam. The survey&#13;<br \/>\nrevealed insights into the impact of the pandemic on consumers&#8217; health, as well&#13;<br \/>\nas their attitudes and behaviors towards improving their well-being.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Many Started Eating Healthier, Exercising&#13;<br \/>\nMore <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Despite most Asia Pacific consumers seeing the current state of their&#13;<br \/>\nhealth as less than ideal, many have taken the first step out to eat healthier&#13;<br \/>\nand exercise more as a result of the pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>54% consumers in the region said they started eating healthier, with the&#13;<br \/>\ntrend being most evident in Vietnam (78%), Indonesia (75%) and the Philippines&#13;<br \/>\n(73%). Among those who said they started to eat less healthily due to the&#13;<br \/>\npandemic, the number one factor was the ability to easily access unhealthy&#13;<br \/>\nsnacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The survey also revealed that 42% consumers started exercising more&#13;<br \/>\nbecause of the pandemic. For&#13;<br \/>\nthose who exercised less during the pandemic, most claimed to exercise 1 to 3&#13;<br \/>\ndays less per week, citing lack of personal motivation to exercise, lack of&#13;<br \/>\nspace at home to exercise, and the inability to access gyms and fitness centers&#13;<br \/>\nas the main reasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Technology Key in Enabling Healthy&#13;<br \/>\nActive Behaviors <\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the digital wave&#13;<br \/>\nsweeping across countries in Asia Pacific, technology and social media is also&#13;<br \/>\nplaying a more important role to support healthy active living. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One in two (56%)&#13;<br \/>\nconsumers now use technology tools such as publicly available virtual fitness&#13;<br \/>\nclasses and videos (42%), fitness trackers (39%), fitness and workout apps&#13;<br \/>\n(34%) and nutrition apps (31%) to support their healthy living regimen. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More consumers also&#13;<br \/>\nfound that social media had a positive influence (33%) on their mental health&#13;<br \/>\nthan a negative influence (19%).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those who indicated&#13;<br \/>\nsocial media as having a positive effect cited the following factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reading&#13;<br \/>\nof inspirational\/motivational content (60%)<\/li>\n<li>Viewing&#13;<br \/>\nof humorous\/light-hearted content (58%)<\/li>\n<li>Inspiration\/motivation&#13;<br \/>\nfrom social media influencers (50%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Clear Desire to Kickstart Healthy&#13;<br \/>\nActive Lifestyles <\/b><\/p>\n<p>When asked about&#13;<br \/>\ntheir plans to adopt healthy active living habits in the next 12 months, an&#13;<br \/>\noverwhelming majority (88%) of consumers said that they plan to eat more healthily,&#13;<br \/>\nwhile 79% plan to exercise more.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among the steps that&#13;<br \/>\nthey would take to eat more healthily include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink&#13;<br \/>\nmore water (70%)<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate&#13;<br \/>\nmore fruits and vegetables into my meals (61%)<\/li>\n<li>Reduce&#13;<br \/>\nmy consumption of sugar and sweets (61%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Key actions that they&#13;<br \/>\nwould take to exercise more include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create&#13;<br \/>\na specific routine that incorporates regular exercise (64%)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Influence&#13;<br \/>\nfamily and friends to exercise together physically or virtually (38%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Purchase&#13;<br \/>\nexercise equipment to work out at home (35%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Herbalife Nutrition Virtual Run 2021&#13;<br \/>\nSpurs Momentum for Healthy Active Living <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Herbalife&#13;<br \/>\nNutrition&#8217;s annual Virtual Run will make its return from October 1 to October&#13;<br \/>\n31. Organized&#13;<br \/>\nas part of the Company&#8217;s Get Moving with Good Nutrition campaign, which aims to&#13;<br \/>\nspark widespread action towards living a healthier life, the run will take&#13;<br \/>\nplace in 11 markets including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea,&#13;<br \/>\nMalaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Herbalife Nutrition&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nVirtual Run 2020 saw more than 14,000 participants clocking close to 600,000&#13;<br \/>\nkilometers across Asia Pacific.
