Twitter has been&#13;<br \/>\nat the center of global conversations about K-pop music scenes, and YeonJeong&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nnew announcement reflects Twitter&#8217;s effect on the global spread of various&#13;<br \/>\nK-content like Korean popular dramas, webtoons, and movies as well as K-pop&#13;<br \/>\nmusic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/182492\/1.jpg#image-182492\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Picture Description:&#13;<br \/>\nTwitter&#8217;s Announcement of #BeyondKPOP at MU:CON 2021<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The results of data aggregation were&#13;<br \/>\nconducted by Twitter and VAIV company through big data text mining techniques&#13;<br \/>\nthat analyzed global English Tweets from July 2018 to June 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Most-mentioned&#13;<br \/>\nK-dramas show clear connection to K-pop<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/182499\/2.jpg#image-182499\" width=\"500\"\/><br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Picture Description:&#13;<br \/>\nTop 20 Most-Mentioned K-Dramas on Twitter in the World<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For many K-pop fans, K-dramas were&#13;<br \/>\nthe next type of K-content they tried after falling in love with K-pop, and the&#13;<br \/>\nmost popular K-dramas reflect this preference.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The top four most-mentioned K-dramas&#13;<br \/>\naround the world were ranked as follows: <i>Kingdom<\/i>&#13;<br \/>\nat number one, <i>Itaewon Class<\/i> (based&#13;<br \/>\non the original webtoon) at number two, <i>True&#13;<br \/>\nBeauty <\/i>at number three, and <i>Vincenzo<\/i>&#13;<br \/>\nat number four. <i>True Beauty <\/i>and <i>Vincenzo<\/i> both include roles for K-pop&#13;<br \/>\nstars, with Cha Eun-woo (a member of the male K-pop group ASTRO) appearing in <i>True Beauty<\/i>, and <i>Ok Taec-yeon<\/i> (a member of the male K-pop group 2PM) starring in <i>Vincenzo.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twitter&#8217;s analysis of the word cloud&#13;<br \/>\nfor Tweets mentioning <i>Itaewon Class <\/i>confirmed&#13;<br \/>\nthat many Tweets about <i>Itaewon Class <\/i>mentioned&#13;<br \/>\nthe OST song &#8220;Sweet Night&#8221; by V, a member of the male K-pop group BTS. The word&#13;<br \/>\ncloud also connected <i>Itaewon Class<\/i> to&#13;<br \/>\n11 other dramas during the first half of 2021. This shows that interest in <i>Itaewon Class<\/i> led fans to other&#13;<br \/>\nK-dramas, making <i>Itaewon Class <\/i>a&#13;<br \/>\ncritical influence for K-content and new fans getting more interested.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Most-mentioned&#13;<br \/>\nwebtoons show boosted interest in webtoons with related K-dramas<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/182506\/3.jpg#image-182506\" width=\"500\"\/><br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Picture Description:&#13;<br \/>\nTop 20 Most-Mentioned K-Webtoons on Twitter in the World<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With K-pop music reaching all-time&#13;<br \/>\nhighs, and the popularity of K-dramas surging accordingly, original K-webtoons&#13;<br \/>\nare also seeing increased interest, especially for webtoons that have been&#13;<br \/>\nturned into K-dramas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many of the most-mentioned webtoons&#13;<br \/>\nhave been turned into K-dramas.<i> True&#13;<br \/>\nBeauty<\/i>, which ranked third in the most-mentioned K-dramas on Twitter,&#13;<br \/>\nranked first in the most-mentioned K-webtoons on Twitter. <i>Sweet Home<\/i>, which was turned into a Netflix original series, ranked&#13;<br \/>\nsecond in the most mentioned K-webtoons. <i>Itaewon&#13;<br \/>\nClass<\/i>, which ranked fourth, was later turned into a K-drama, while <i>Navillera <\/i>(sixth) not only was later&#13;<br \/>\nturned into a K-drama, but also benefited from BTS member V recommending the&#13;<br \/>\ndrama on a fan cafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Most-mentioned&#13;<br \/>\nmovies show the impact of Korea&#8217;s biggest directors<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/182513\/4.jpg#image-182513\" width=\"500\"\/><br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Picture Description:&#13;<br \/>\nTop 20 Most-Mentioned K-Movies on Twitter in the World<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just three film directors accounted&#13;<br \/>\nfor 9 of the top 20 K-movies that are most-mentioned on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Parasite<\/i>, directed by Bong&#13;<br \/>\nJoon-ho, was the most-mentioned K-movie on Twitter, but Bong&#8217;s other movies, <i>Snowpiercer<\/i>, <i>Okja<\/i>, <i>Mother<\/i>, and <i>The Host<\/i>, all were among the top 20.&#13;<br \/>\nDirectors Park Chan-wook and Yeon Sang-ho also accounted for two K-movies&#13;<br \/>\napiece, with <i>Oldboy<\/i> and <i>Thirst<\/i>, and <i>Peninsula <\/i>and <i>Train to Busan<\/i>,&#13;<br \/>\nrespectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twitter&#8217;s analysis of Tweets related&#13;<br \/>\nto Bong Joon-ho showed keywords related to <i>Parasite<\/i>&#13;<br \/>\n(which won four Academy Awards in 2020), <i>Mother<\/i>,&#13;<br \/>\nand <i>Snowpiercer<\/i> respectively, as well&#13;<br \/>\nas works by other prominent directors Park Chan-wook and Lee Chang-dong.&#13;<br \/>\nTwitter&#8217;s analysis shows that interest in Bong Joon-ho helped to drive interest&#13;<br \/>\nin K-movies broadly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>K-content&#13;<br \/>\nwill continue to expand<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Yeon-jeong Kim, head of Twitter&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nGlobal K-pop and K-content partnerships, said, &#8220;Twitter has proven that K-pop -&#13;<br \/>\nalong with many other fandoms &#8211; thrive due to the characteristics of Twitter:&#13;<br \/>\nlive, public, and conversational. People are consuming K-content through&#13;<br \/>\nvarious channels, but in the end, the conversations are being held on Twitter.&#13;<br \/>\nK-content has limitless potential as the fandom culture that started with K-pop&#13;<br \/>\nhas taken an interest in other forms of Korean content, which has led to the&#13;<br \/>\nspread of the culture. Twitter will dedicate itself in the fullest to&#13;<br \/>\nsupporting the globalization of K-content and the fandom it empowers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MU:CON 2021 celebrated the 10th&#13;<br \/>\nanniversary of Asia&#8217;s largest global music market event held by the Ministry of&#13;<br \/>\nCulture, Sports, and Tourism, and the Korea Creative Content Agency, in an&#13;<br \/>\neffort to help Korean musicians advance in the global market.
