Themed&#13;<br \/>\n&#8220;fall in love with the future through circular design&#8221;, the Challenge aims to&#13;<br \/>\ndiscover young creative talents and to facilitate an exchange of dialogue&#13;<br \/>\naround circular design. The Challenge is part of Making Matters, sponsored by&#13;<br \/>\nIM Motors and co-developed by Manchester Metropolitan University and Young&#13;<br \/>\nGreen Tech. Chinese university students in Mainland China and the UK are&#13;<br \/>\ninvited to apply by 8 November 2021 through WeChat account<a name=\"_Hlk83301350\">&#13;<br \/>\nYounggreentech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/images.media-outreach.com\/Thumb\/500x0\/180019\/Making-Matters-KV-Landscape-RGB-.jpg#image-180019\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Making Matters was launched in 2018 by the British&#13;<br \/>\nCouncil with an aim to explore how principles of the circular economy can be a&#13;<br \/>\ncatalyst for creativity, collaboration and regenerative thinking within&#13;<br \/>\narchitecture, design and fashion practice through its multi-disciplinary&#13;<br \/>\nprogramme. Circular design involves creating products and services that&#13;<br \/>\nminimise the use of resource inputs and the creation of waste, pollution and&#13;<br \/>\ncarbon emissions to result in less waste and more value added to the ecosystem.&#13;<br \/>\nOpen to Chinese students in universities in Mainland China and the UK, Making&#13;<br \/>\nMatters, China Design Challenge encourages students to rethink the role of&#13;<br \/>\ndesign today and how to create positive change through circular design. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eligible applicants can apply individually or form a&#13;<br \/>\nteam of up to 6 members to submit a proposal outlining an issue or concern that&#13;<br \/>\ntheir circular design addresses by 8 November 2021. The judging panel will&#13;<br \/>\nevaluate the proposals based on the following criteria in two phases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Social&#13;<br \/>\nimpact<\/b> \u2013 applicants&#8217; sense of social responsibility and&#13;<br \/>\nconcern for global challenges, with the ambition to make positive change&#13;<br \/>\nthrough circular design<\/li>\n<li><b>Communication<\/b> \u2013 applicants&#8217; ability to express their ideas,&#13;<br \/>\npresent their project and communicate with mentors and judges <\/li>\n<li><b>Academic&#13;<br \/>\nperformance<\/b> \u2013 applicant&#8217;s understanding of circular design and&#13;<br \/>\nhow they can adapt a circular approach through their proposal<\/li>\n<li><b>Potential,&#13;<br \/>\nfeasibility and relation<\/b> \u2013 feasibility of the proposed idea to materialise&#13;<br \/>\nin real life and its potential for further development, as well as it&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nrelevancy to the community or the planet<\/li>\n<li><b>Critical&#13;<br \/>\nthinking<\/b> \u2013 applicants&#8217; ability to think critically and&#13;<br \/>\nlogically<\/li>\n<li><b>Innovation&#13;<br \/>\n<\/b>\u2013 applicants&#8217; ability to develop innovative product,&#13;<br \/>\nprovide creative solutions, or conduct meaningful research with a circular&#13;<br \/>\ndesign practice<\/li>\n<li><b>Achievement&#13;<br \/>\nand improvement<\/b> \u2013 applicants&#8217; ability to make progress through&#13;<br \/>\nnewly acquired knowledge and skills, as well as deepen understanding and change&#13;<br \/>\nperception<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>30 semi-finalists will be&#13;<br \/>\nshortlisted on 15 November 2021 and invited for an in-person presentation in&#13;<br \/>\nShanghai. 15 finalists will be selected to enter the second stage. In April&#13;<br \/>\n2022 for the final presentation in Beijing, one grand champion and 4 runners-up&#13;<br \/>\nwill be announced. The grand champion and runners-up will receive a prize of&#13;<br \/>\nCNY 24,000 (~GBP 2,210\/ USD 3,720) and CNY 12,000 (~GBP 1,350\/ USD 1,860)&#13;<br \/>\nrespectively, with an internship opportunity with IM Motors, Young Green Tech and other supporting organisations.&#13;<br \/>\nA documentary will be produced to record all the finalists&#8217; projects. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the semi-finalists will be selected by the&#13;<br \/>\norganisers, a judging panel will be responsible to select 15 finalists. Climate Change is one of the biggest shared&#13;<br \/>\nchallenges we all face, and all of us can make a difference in reducing our&#13;<br \/>\nimpact on the environment.
