Developed by Unissoft and supported by a 5G MEC&#13;<br \/>\nsystem architecture designed by SmarTone, this deployment scenario combines&#13;<br \/>\nSmarTone&#8217;s 5G network with the Ericsson Enterprise Edge Link, becoming the&#13;<br \/>\nfirst project in Hong Kong to adopt it in a commercial capacity and the first batch&#13;<br \/>\nof projects in Asia. Edge computing allows data&#13;<br \/>\nto be processed at nearby stations or dedicated computing platforms, negating&#13;<br \/>\nthe need for transmitting data to distant servers. This not only reduces data&#13;<br \/>\nprocessing time, but also enhances data security through bypassing data&#13;<br \/>\nprocessing through public cloud servers.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>This represents the first instance of a local startup&#13;<br \/>\napplying an in-house developed technology to enhancing 5G&#8217;s commercial value.&#13;<br \/>\nWith lower latency and a more secure network design, 5G can be broadly applied&#13;<br \/>\nin commercial and industrial communications, and even unmanned driving. MEC&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nadvantage lies in its ability to enable application ownership within&#13;<br \/>\nenterprises, while Unissoft&#8217;s technology significantly reduces cost to&#13;<br \/>\nhighlight the advantages of 5G. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Unissoft will be providing a Pet Monitoring System,&#13;<br \/>\nsupported by 5G MEC edge computing, to the pet friendly at Arcade@Cyberport.&#13;<br \/>\nThis MEC device features a nEdge setup developed by Unissoft, integrated with&#13;<br \/>\nthe latest enterprise 5G Ericsson Enterprise Edge Link. Through high-definition&#13;<br \/>\ncameras connected with the SmarTone 5G network, multiple real-time video stream&#13;<br \/>\nwill be transmitted via the SmarTone-developed 5G MEC architecture, through&#13;<br \/>\nmobile edge gateways within the mall, to Unissoft&#8217;s in-house nEdge multi-cloud&#13;<br \/>\ndesign for artificial intelligence (AI) analysis. This helps staff of facility office&#13;<br \/>\nstay apprised of real-time information, such as the pet count within the mall&#13;<br \/>\nand whether pets have entered any unauthorised areas, giving pets and their&#13;<br \/>\nowners a better user experience while enabling staff to respond more quickly to&#13;<br \/>\nemergencies and improve operational efficiency. The research and development&#13;<br \/>\nprocess of this project was supported by the Department of Computer Science and&#13;<br \/>\nEngineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the project was funded&#13;<br \/>\nby the &#8220;Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G&#8221; of the Office of&#13;<br \/>\nthe Communications Authority.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><u>Cyberport&#13;<br \/>\nCampus Provides Application Scenarios for 5G Solutions<\/u><\/b><b><u\/><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>Howard Cheng, Chief&#13;<br \/>\nOperating Officer of Cyberport<\/b>, said, &#8220;5G&#13;<br \/>\ncommunication is a disruptive technology that provides unprecedented dimensions&#13;<br \/>\nof development for innovative technologies, expanding the realm of technological&#13;<br \/>\napplications using wireless networks.
