\nCyberport, says Cyberport has a good number of community members focused on
\ngreen FinTech and will play a key role in promoting Hong Kong as a leading
\ngreen FinTech Hub.<\/h5>\n

\nFinance Speaker Series will be launched this Thursday (29 July). Two other
\nsessions are scheduled on 12 and 19 August. It strives to provide the latest
\nknowledge of green finance development, with each session covering various
\ntopics from the historic development of international policies and recent
\ndevelopments in Asia and Hong Kong during the Pandemic to recognised successful
\nEuropean case studies with the integration of technology. The details of the
\nSeries are as follows:<\/p>\n

\nMeasures”<\/b> will be chaired by Dr
\nWilliam Yu, CEO of World Green Organisation<\/li>\n
\nfinancial risks in Hong Kong and Asia amid Pandemic Era”<\/b> will be chaired by
\nDr Glenn Frommer, Founder of ESG Matters<\/li>\n
\nFix It”<\/b> will be chaired by Arnaud Picut, Head of Global Risk Management
\nPractice at Finastra, and Dr Leonid Bogachev, Associate Professor of Reader in
\nProbability at the University of Leeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nOrganisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) estimates that
\nas much as US$7 trillion will be needed each year until 2030 to meet climate
\nand development objectives. This creates huge demand for green finance. Additionally,
\naccording to the “Hong Kong Green Bond Market Briefing 2020<\/a>” report issued by Climate Bonds Initiatives,
\nHong Kong’s green debt market maintained growth in size and diversity last year.
\nHong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited also continues to enhance the ESG
\nrequirements of listing companies while investors are increasingly more
\ndemanding in investments to perform well in environmentalism and
\nsustainability. With FinTech’s role in propelling green finance, FinTech will
\nbe significant in such developments as well.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\nChief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport<\/b>, said,”When financial investments flow into sustainable
\ndevelopment projects and initiatives, environmental products, and policies that
\nencourage the development of a more sustainable economy, the market requires
\nefficient tools for collecting, monitoring and analysing data for better
\ninvestment decisions. FinTech delivers such solutions. Cyberport has a good
\nnumber of community members focused on green FinTech and will play a key role
\nin promoting Hong Kong as a leading and green FinTech hub.”

\nestablished Centre for Green and Sustainable Finance by the Hong Kong Monetary
\nAuthority-led Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group. With
\nthe objective of helping the financial industry manage the risks and capture
\nthe opportunities presented by combating climate change, the Centre is a cross-sector platform which coordinates the
\nefforts of financial regulators, Government agencies, industry stakeholders and
\nacademia in capacity building, thought leadership and policy development. It
\nwill also serve as a repository for resources, data and analytics which supports
\nthe transition to more sustainable development.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\nPicut, Head of Global Risk Management Practice at Finastra, <\/b>said, “There will be no progress in green finance without
\na strong FinTech community. Cyberport is making a lot of progress and has taken
\ngreen finance as one of the major streams of development. With a strong
\ninvestment and focus from different government bodies, Hong Kong will catch up
\nquickly with the leader. Financial institutions can employ FinTech within green
\nfinance operations to better analyze costs and efficiency and increase data
\nauthenticity.”<\/p>\n

\nYu, Chief Executive Officer of World Green Organization, <\/b>said, “Green finance helps provide funds to address
\ndifferent environmental challenges, turning them into investment opportunities
\nvia structural financial activities and instruments. With the advancement in
\ntechnology experienced in FinTech, technology will play a key role in shaping
\nour future financial services. For example, blockchain applications will
\nenhance transparency in sustainability efforts, creating reliable records in
\nenvironmental projects. UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could also be a
\nreference, and serves as a universal agenda that applies to all countries at
\nthe national and local level.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
\nFrommer, Founder of ESG Matters<\/b>, a
\nCyberport incubatee, <\/b>said, “With green finance growing rapidly, its
\npotential as the next frontier in the FinTech ecosystem is unquestionable.
\nFinTech is a critical enabler for green finance, starting with the mass of ESG
\ndata needed to be considered for financial investments. We are hopeful that ESG
\ndata quality and availability will improve. With the continued growth of green
\nand sustainable finance, we will likely see further development of the green FinTech
\nlandscape globally.”<\/p>\n
