This juncture of ethics and&#13;<br \/>\neCommerce creates fertile ground for retail media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcg.com\/publications\/2021\/how-to-compete-in-retail-mediaretailers%E2%80%99%20ability%20to%20access%20first-party%20data%20and%20%E2%80%9Cclose%20the%20loop%E2%80%9D%20by%20identifying%20those%20who%20make%20a%20purchase%20after%20seeing%20an%20ad%20makes%20retail%20media%20a%20compelling%20new%20channel%20for%20advertisers.\">because of the&#13;<br \/>\ninterplay among customer data, closed-loop reporting, and real-world results&#13;<br \/>\nthat generate more and better data<\/a>.&#8221; Miranda Dimopoulos, Regional CEO, IAB SEA+India&#13;<br \/>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The research uncovered that Millennials in&#13;<br \/>\nSoutheast Asia and Hong Kong were driving this explosive growth. In the survey,&#13;<br \/>\n84% of under 35s in the Philippines said that they sold their pre-owned items&#13;<br \/>\nbecause it is better for the environment to sell their items than dispose of&#13;<br \/>\nthem. The Philippines ranked this as the most important reason, as compared to&#13;<br \/>\nthe other markets. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>JJ Eastwood, Managing&#13;<br \/>\nDirector, CMG shared &#8220;Recommerce has become synonymous\u00a0 with sustainability and this research&#13;<br \/>\ndemonstrates how important this has become to young people across the region.&#13;<br \/>\nAs we see users spending more on high-value products like luxury, and cars in&#13;<br \/>\nthe Philippines, we also see them being increasingly conscious of where they&#13;<br \/>\nspend their money. This presents a unique opportunity for brands to win the&#13;<br \/>\nhearts and minds of this core consumer segment around issues they care deeply&#13;<br \/>\nabout.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>This regional research&#13;<br \/>\nestablishes the audience profile in each market then explores income and&#13;<br \/>\nspending habits, how the audience spends their time online, and offline,&#13;<br \/>\nmotivations to use buy-and-sell marketplaces as well as attitudes towards&#13;<br \/>\nsustainability in relation to their purchasing habits. The report further&#13;<br \/>\ndeep-dives into some interesting local market insights. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Some key findings from the regional survey&#13;<br \/>\ninclude:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0  \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>95% of Millennials felt that&#13;<br \/>\npurchasing pre-owned items is more sustainable with 50% feeling strongly about&#13;<br \/>\nthis. For the Philippines, it was higher at 99%. <\/li>\n<li>Millennials overall, also cared&#13;<br \/>\nmore about social issues such as sustainability, social responsibility and&#13;<br \/>\nclimate change in comparison to over 35s. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/li>\n<li>The Philippines ranked higher than&#13;<br \/>\nthe regional averages when it came to sustainability considerations being&#13;<br \/>\nfactored in by respondents when they were selling an item. 84% of the&#13;<br \/>\nrespondents said that they use platforms like Carousell to sell products, with&#13;<br \/>\nthe intent of upgrading to something else, and because it is better for the&#13;<br \/>\nenvironment to sell the item rather than dispose of it.\u00a0 <\/li>\n<li>In the majority of markets, both&#13;<br \/>\nthose under 35 and over 35 are equally motivated to use the platform as the&#13;<br \/>\nenvironmental impact is lesser when purchasing a pre-owned item.<\/li>\n<li>Over 35s are significantly more&#13;<br \/>\nmotivated by promotions and sales when it comes to purchasing a luxury item&#13;<br \/>\nwhereas under 35s will save for a particular item.<\/li>\n<li><i>Gaming, Mobile, Gadgets or Accessories<\/i> is the&#13;<br \/>\ntop category in Electronic Items, followed by <i>Computer Accessories<\/i> and <i>Home&#13;<br \/>\n&amp; Kitchen Appliances<\/i>; these are all categories that facilitate&#13;<br \/>\nentertainment, communication, virtual working and cooking as respondents spent&#13;<br \/>\nmore time at home due to COVID-19. <\/li>\n<li>Asian platforms dominate the&#13;<br \/>\ncompetitor landscape against similar Western platforms such as Amazon. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This research captures a&#13;<br \/>\nhighly engaged millennial audience who are in the browsing and buying mindset,&#13;<br \/>\nmotivated by a great deal and their belief that purchasing pre-owned is more&#13;<br \/>\nsustainable.
