The result has exceeded expectations,&#13;<br \/>\nparticularly for a newly established sci-tech prize opened for nominations less&#13;<br \/>\nthan four months ago, affirming the global scientific community&#8217;s favorable&#13;<br \/>\nresponse to VinFuture&#8217;s mission of serving humanity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/155323\/Anh-VinFuture-Prize-Council.jpg#image-155323\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0Members of VinFuture Prize Council<\/h5>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">With a vision <\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem\">&#8220;to create meaningful&#13;<br \/>\nchange in the everyday lives of millions of people by promoting breakthrough&#13;<br \/>\nscientific research and technological innovations&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, the VinFuture Foundation&#13;<br \/>\nand the VinFuture Prize have drawn great enthusiasm from the global scientific&#13;<br \/>\nand technological community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Notably, VinFuture has attracted prominent scientists and&#13;<br \/>\nthe world&#8217;s leading research and academic institutions as well as innovators from developing countries.&#13;<br \/>\nNearly 100 nominated projects belong to the world&#8217;s top 2% most-cited scientists, many of whom are laureates of&#13;<br \/>\nprestigious awards such as the Nobel Prize, the Breakthrough Prize, the Tang&#13;<br \/>\nPrize, the Japan Prize, among others. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">While the&#13;<br \/>\nmajority of candidates are from North America (31.6%), Asia (33.9%), and Europe&#13;<br \/>\n(21%), VinFuture has received significant nominations from scientists in&#13;<br \/>\nOceania, Latin America, and Africa. In particular, female scientists were&#13;<br \/>\nnominated in all four prize categories, accounting for 34.3% of the total&#13;<br \/>\nnominees.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All share&#13;<br \/>\nthe same aspiration of doing science for humanity, offering highly applicable&#13;<br \/>\nand practical solutions to improve the quality of people&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These positive results are attributed to&#13;<br \/>\nthe strong support of prominent individuals and organizations, world-renowned&#13;<br \/>\nscientists, as well as distinguished&#13;<br \/>\nprofessors and experts from the <a href=\"https:\/\/vinfutureprize.org\/prizecouncil\/council\">Prize Council<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/vinfutureprize.org\/prizecouncil\/council\"> <\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/vinfutureprize.org\/prizecouncil\/pre-screening-committee\">Pre-screening&#13;<br \/>\nCommittee<\/a>&#13;<br \/>\nwho have endorsed the VinFuture Prize among the global scientific community. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Therefore, just four months after the&#13;<br \/>\ninitial call for nominations, the Prize has attracted nearly 1,200 nominators&#13;<br \/>\nfrom the world&#8217;s most reputable academic circles. These include Harvard&#13;<br \/>\nUniversity, where many prominent scientists converge; the\u00a0 University of&#13;<br \/>\nCambridge and the University of\u00a0 Oxford, home to many Nobel laureates and&#13;<br \/>\nwell-known for its natural\u00a0sciences and engineering programs;&#13;<br \/>\nthe\u00a0University of Tokyo, Japan&#8217;s leading higher education organization;&#13;<br \/>\nand other recognized organizations such as the National Institutes of Health&#13;<br \/>\n(NIH) &#8211; the leading U.S. government agency in public health, the Max Planck&#13;<br \/>\nSociety &#8211; the world&#8217;s leading research organization in science and technology,&#13;<br \/>\nand the Chinese Academy of Science, one of the world&#8217;s largest research&#13;<br \/>\norganizations, to name but a few.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;We are very pleased to see&#13;<br \/>\nthat the VinFuture Prize, while being the first of its kind from Vietnam, has&#13;<br \/>\nbeen received so warmly by the global scientific community. Particularly, many&#13;<br \/>\nprominent scientists have been nominated for the Prize. They have made truly&#13;<br \/>\nmeaningful contributions to the future of humanity by tackling global&#13;<br \/>\nchallenges from infectious diseases, environmental pollution, climate change to&#13;<br \/>\nshortage of natural resources. The nominations for female scientists,&#13;<br \/>\nscientists from developing countries, as well as pioneers in emerging fields&#13;<br \/>\nare also very impressive,&#8221; <\/i>said Professor\u00a0Thuc-Quyen Nguyen,&#13;<br \/>\nUniversity of California, Santa Barbara, Co-Chair of the VinFuture Prize&#13;<br \/>\nPre-Screening Committee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In addition to the impressive number of&#13;<br \/>\nnominations and the prestige of nominated scientists and researchers, the&#13;<br \/>\nVinFuture Prize has also seen an impressive diversity and depth of areas that&#13;<br \/>\naddress humanity&#8217;s common challenges after its inaugural call for nominations. A&#13;<br \/>\nsignificant number of nominated innovations focus on the prevention and&#13;<br \/>\ntreatment of infectious diseases on a global scale, sustainable poverty&#13;<br \/>\nelimination, smart agriculture, clean food supply, renewable energy, and&#13;<br \/>\napplications of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in education&#13;<br \/>\nand life.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Going forward, nominations will&#13;<br \/>\nbe reviewed by a twelve-member Pre-Screening Committee \u2013 prominent scientists&#13;<br \/>\nand experts from various disciplines and countries \u2013 who will present the&#13;<br \/>\nshortlisted candidates to the Prize Council in August 2021. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Laureates will then be selected&#13;<br \/>\nindependently by the Prize Council comprising eleven distinguished individuals&#13;<br \/>\nin academia, research, and industry with significant achievements and&#13;<br \/>\ncontributions to advancing human progress. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The VinFuture Grand Prize will be&#13;<br \/>\nawarded to innovators whose work has been proven to create the largest impact&#13;<br \/>\non humanity. It is also one of the world&#8217;s largest prizes for science and&#13;<br \/>\ntechnology to date, valued at US$ 3 million (equivalent to 70 billion&#13;<br \/>\nVietnamese Dong).
