What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what\u2019s trending or popular, so we\u2019re giving you the choice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019re looking for more ways to give people control over their experience. That\u2019s why we <a href=\"https:\/\/about.instagram.com\/blog\/announcements\/introducing-new-tools-to-protect-our-community-from-abuse\">announced<\/a> new tools to allow people to filter offensive content from their DMs and gave people ways to control <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2021\/03\/more-control-and-context-in-news-feed\/\">what they see and share<\/a> on Facebook\u2019s News Feed \u2013 like the Feed Filter Bar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/1634545223376778\">Favorites Feed<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/1625371524453896\">Choose Who Can Comment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><strong>New options to hide public like counts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Starting today, we\u2019re giving you the option to hide like counts on all posts in your feed. You\u2019ll also have the option to hide like counts on your own posts, so others can\u2019t see how many likes your posts get. This way, if you like, you can focus on the photos and videos being shared, instead of how many likes posts get.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can hide like counts on others\u2019 posts by visiting the new Posts section in Settings. You can turn this setting on or off, even after it goes live. People want more flexibility, so we thought it would be important to give people the option. In the next few weeks you will see both of these controls come to Facebook.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Collaborating with experts and creators<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What one person wants from their Instagram experience is different from the next, and people\u2019s needs are changing. We\u2019ve been working closely with third-party experts to better understand how to empower people, build self-awareness and shape a more positive experience on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019re also funding more external research about people\u2019s experiences on Instagram, and how we can improve our policies and products to support our community. We\u2019re currently requesting research proposals from global academics and non-profits. If you\u2019re interested you can find more information <a href=\"https:\/\/research.fb.com\/programs\/research-awards\/proposals\/2021-instagram-request-for-proposals-on-safety-and-community-health\/\">here<\/a> on how to submit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In India, we also recently collaborated with the Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC) to initiate the fifth edition of the \u2018Counter Speech Fellowship\u2019, a program that engages creative teens to use the power of visual storytelling to start meaningful conversations on issues that are important to young citizens around the world. This includes the themes of bullying, diversity, mental wellbeing and gender equality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Changing the way people view like counts is a big shift.
