On top  of that,&#13;<br \/>\nanother 25 per cent  said that they are willing to retrain should the&#13;<br \/>\nneed arise. A total of 66,624 respondents in Asia \u2014 out of 209,000 participants&#13;<br \/>\nacross 190 countries \u2014 took part in the study.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"> \u00a0<img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/153629\/Image-Infographic.jpg#image-153629\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> Of&#13;<br \/>\nthe 72 per cent of respondents who are willing to retrain in any case, most of them&#13;<br \/>\nwork in the   Manual Work &amp; Manufacturing (75.87%); Digitalisation&#13;<br \/>\n&amp; Automation (75.72%); and Customer Service (75.68%) industries.   Those&#13;<br \/>\naged between 21 and 50 are the keenest to retrain,   and  &#13;<br \/>\nIT &amp; Technology (26.58%), Digitalization &amp; Automation (25.10%) and&#13;<br \/>\nAdministration &amp; Secretarial (19.25%) roles appeal most to them. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nstudy is conducted in partnership with SEEK Asia (the parent company of&#13;<br \/>\nJobStreet), Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and The Network. It is the third release&#13;<br \/>\nin a series of publications focusing on the pandemic&#8217;s impact on worker&#13;<br \/>\npreferences and expectations. The data gathered for <i>Decoding Global Career&#13;<br \/>\nShifts<\/i> provides insights into worker preferences by gender, age, education&#13;<br \/>\nlevel, level of digital skill, and position in the job hierarchy. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><i> Automation&#13;<br \/>\nperceived as a threat to one&#8217;s job security <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\neconomic uncertainty brought on by the pandemic comes at a time when workers in&#13;<br \/>\njust  about every field already&#13;<br \/>\nhave some level of concern about being replaced by technology. Over 49 percent  of&#13;<br \/>\nworkers in Asia have become more concerned about automation during the&#13;<br \/>\npandemic. According to the survey, four of the top five countries where workers&#13;<br \/>\nare concerned about being replaced by technology are Asian countries. They are&#13;<br \/>\nas follows: Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. \u00a0\u00a0  <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> Workers&#13;<br \/>\nin the Financial Institutions (54.89%) as well as Insurance (54.50%), Telecommunications&#13;<br \/>\n(53.96%), Technology (53.58%) Public (50.47%) and Industrial Goods (50.12%) sectors&#13;<br \/>\nare most concerned about the threat of automation. Those holding job roles such&#13;<br \/>\nas law; sales; engineering &amp; technical; and health and medicine are&#13;<br \/>\ngenerally less concerned. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><i> Workers&#13;<br \/>\nare actively developing new skills  <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p> In&#13;<br \/>\nthe past year, workers have been taking steps to upgrade their skills. This&#13;<br \/>\nperhaps has to do with their realisation that job security is no longer a&#13;<br \/>\nguarantee in this ever-changing world, and that their employability depends on&#13;<br \/>\ntheir skill sets. 34.24 per cent of workers said that they have spent&#13;<br \/>\nsignificant time (few months per year or more) learning while 29.37 per cent&#13;<br \/>\nsaid they have spent a few weeks a year doing so.
