With good designs, we can always stay youthful even after we have&#13;<br \/>\nentered the second half of our life. From the interplay of these concepts, Design&#13;<br \/>\nSpectrum, which is launched by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) and sponsored by&#13;<br \/>\nCreate Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative&#13;<br \/>\nRegion, presents a design exhibition themed &#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221; at 7 Mallory&#13;<br \/>\nStreet from 13 May to 18 July. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/150963\/DD1.jpg#image-150963\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/150970\/DD2.jpg#image-150970\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nexhibition consists of five zones, providing innovative, innocent and&#13;<br \/>\ninteractive platforms to let visitors pay tribute to their future selves through&#13;<br \/>\nexperiencing the lives of the elderly: visitors can empathise with their daily challenges&#13;<br \/>\nthrough specially designed tools and appreciate the many excellent designs made&#13;<br \/>\nfor them. The exhibition also features stories behind the craftsmanship of&#13;<br \/>\nclassics and a commissioned work &#8220;Beat of table &amp; stool&#8221;, as well as docent&#13;<br \/>\ntour services by retired elderly and kid duos, themed workshops and a sharing&#13;<br \/>\nsession to promote inter-generational harmony, wisdom and energy that can be&#13;<br \/>\nregained through &#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><u>&#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221; Exhibition: A design&#13;<br \/>\ntesting ground for cross-generational integration<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\n<b>&#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221; Exhibition<\/b><b> <\/b>is curated by <b>OHMYKIDS<\/b> and co-curated by <b>Littleurbanmountain Design<\/b>. Its narrative is presented in a&#13;<br \/>\nprogressive approach, as the curators believe growing old is definitely not a mundane&#13;<br \/>\nprocess; and good designs can freeze time and overturn the society&#8217;s stereotypes&#13;<br \/>\nof the elderly. People of all ages can benefit from this educational and&#13;<br \/>\ninteractive exhibition: young visitors at the exhibition can draw inspirations&#13;<br \/>\nfrom the experiences of the silver-haired, while senior citizens can find&#13;<br \/>\nresonance by revisiting the many classic designs of their age. Designed by <b>Littleurbanmountain Design, <\/b>the exhibition<b> <\/b>is specially equipped with&#13;<br \/>\nround-shaped display installations of varying sizes to enhance accessibility&#13;<br \/>\nand convenience of visitors. Also, sufficient lighting and large, legible&#13;<br \/>\ndescription texts are provided to facilitate reading of the panels for enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><u>Five major zones: Go on an inspirational journey through <\/u><\/b><b><u>&#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221;&#13;<br \/>\ndesigns<\/u><\/b><b><u\/><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Zone 1: Experience before getting&#13;<br \/>\nold<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The curators believe that design should be&#13;<br \/>\npeople-centred, and all good designs are certainly driven by empathy. Young&#13;<br \/>\nvisitors and children can put on elderly experience simulation suits designed&#13;<br \/>\nby <b>Eldpathy<\/b> and use the interactive&#13;<br \/>\ntools jointly created by <b>Enable Foundation x&#13;<br \/>\nPascal Anson<\/b> to &#8216;feel&#8217; the day-to-day mobility challenges of seniors.&#13;<br \/>\n<b\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Zone 2: The story of us and&#13;<br \/>\ndesign<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>This zone presents the design&#13;<br \/>\nstories of 10 silver-haired seniors compiled by CR2 903 radio host <b>Amber Au<\/b>, including the owners of the&#13;<br \/>\ncentury-old woodworking store <b>Sze Cheung<\/b>,&#13;<br \/>\n100-year-old umbrella factory <b>Leung So Kee<\/b>,&#13;<br \/>\n<b>Woo Ping Optical<\/b>, ceramic factory <b>Castle Peak Dragon Kiln<\/b>, <b>Yiu Wah Plastic Film Advertising Company<\/b> which&#13;<br \/>\nproduces signboards in a font called &#8220;Lee Hon Kong Kai&#8221;, <b>Oi Mee Chee Fashion<\/b>, <b>Yau Yin Tong Chop Engravery<\/b>, <b>Luen Shing Foundry<\/b>, <b>PAPA Shoes<\/b> and <b>Hang Yue&#13;<br \/>\nJadeware<\/b>. These owners have all come across many good designs that had&#13;<br \/>\nan impact on their lives and were subsequently inspired to create more&#13;<br \/>\nexceptional products. Visitors can come and savour these design stories celebrating&#13;<br \/>\nthe time and efforts they put into cultivating these iconic brands.<b\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Zone 3: Evergreen Showroom<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Visitors can wander through the&#13;<br \/>\ntwo classic scenes of stores and cinemas from the good old days, which&#13;<br \/>\naccompanied many Hong Kong people as they grew up. They can witness the rebirth of an old cinema palace as the wrecking&#13;<br \/>\ncrew rebuilds the masterpiece to its modern elegance with <b>Paul Shepherd (HKBU, Academy of Film)<\/b>&#8216;s film&#13;<br \/>\ndocumentary and also revisit many well-known and evergreen designs that are&#13;<br \/>\nstill in use today: Red A egg lamps, mosaic tiles, Vitasoy milk warming&#13;<br \/>\ncabinets, weighing scales and weighing cards, cinema seats, handbills and so&#13;<br \/>\non. All of these represent a formidable collection of folk wisdom spanning an&#13;<br \/>\nepoch.<b\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Zone 4:<\/b> <b>Guess What<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>In the interactive game area set&#13;<br \/>\nup with three large, unique roller-shaped installations, visitors can participate&#13;<br \/>\nin a Q&amp;A interaction and listen to the stories behind several classic and&#13;<br \/>\ninnovative designs guided by the voice of seniors and children.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Zone 5: Design for&#13;<br \/>\nFuture Us<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Many impressive designs&#13;<br \/>\ntailor-made for the elderly have been launched through the years. The&#13;<br \/>\nexhibition will showcase more than 30 pieces of contemporary, forward-thinking designs&#13;<br \/>\nand products exclusively curated for the elderly sourced from Hong Kong and&#13;<br \/>\naround the world from four major aspects &#8211; namely <b>apparel, food, living and transportation<\/b> &#8211; to demonstrate the ability to combine empathy and&#13;<br \/>\nprofessional skills in designing thoughtful products for bettering the&#13;<br \/>\nelderly&#8217;s standard of living. Among them, the <b>WHILL Model Ci <\/b>electric wheelchair from <b>Culture Homes<\/b>, which won the Gold Award of the&#13;<br \/>\nDFA Design for Asia Awards 2018, will be unveiled for the first time at an&#13;<br \/>\nexhibition hosted by HKDC in Hong Kong.<b\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><u>Commissioned work &#8220;Beat of table &amp;&#13;<br \/>\nstool&#8221;: Concerts amid the City&#8217;s Hustle and Bustle<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>From 13 May to 30 May, the&#13;<br \/>\ncommissioned work <b>&#8220;Beat of table &amp; stool&#8221;<\/b> created by <b>Ng Ka- chun@MUDWORK<\/b> will be&#13;<br \/>\ndisplayed on the G\/F&#13;<br \/>\npublic open space at 7 Mallory Street. Light&#13;<br \/>\nand flexible in design, the cheap yet practical folding tables and stools can&#13;<br \/>\nbe seen anywhere around Hong Kong like at home&#13;<br \/>\nor in street food stores,&#13;<br \/>\nrepresenting a&#13;<br \/>\nclassic and humble example of folk wisdom. These popular old-style folding tables and stools have been transformed into a series of musical instruments after&#13;<br \/>\nre-design and remodification. Visitors are welcome to join in the fun and express their&#13;<br \/>\nmusical talents&#13;<br \/>\nby slapping the musical instruments with their hands to fill the venue with powerful&#13;<br \/>\nsounds. During&#13;<br \/>\nthe exhibition, <b>Haw Par Music<\/b> <b>String Orchestra<\/b><b> &amp; <\/b><b>Haw Par Music<\/b> <b>Jazz<\/b>, <b>Four&#13;<br \/>\nGig Heads Percussion Group <\/b>(<b>Angus Fu<\/b> and Musicians) &amp; Music therapist<b> <\/b><b>Carol Cheung, <\/b>and the <b>Hong Kong&#13;<br \/>\nYouth Percussion of HKFYG<\/b> will stage professional concerts using the stunning pieces.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b><u>Free docent tours, workshops and sharing&#13;<br \/>\nsession: Experience &#8220;Brand New Youth&#8221; <\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>During the exhibition, Design&#13;<br \/>\nSpectrum will be organising 10 free guided tours, a range of workshops and a&#13;<br \/>\nsharing session for people of all ages. Led by&#13;<br \/>\n<b>Walk In Hong Kong<\/b>,&#13;<br \/>\nretired seniors and children who have undergone professional training will act as docents to guide&#13;<br \/>\nvisitors around the five major zones. Free workshops include the Parent-Child&#13;<br \/>\nCheongsam\/Qipao-style Bib Workshop hosted by <b>Rhys<\/b>; an IDK Design Thinking Workshop: &#8220;A Tale of Two&#13;<br \/>\nGenerations&#8221; Interactive Theatre led by <b>Eldpathy<\/b>; <a name=\"_Hlk71130739\">\u00a0<\/a>&#8220;This is&#13;<br \/>\nnot a stool&#8221; Workshop where the instructor <b>Ng Ka-chun@MUDWORK <\/b>will&#13;<br \/>\ndemonstrate how to play the musical instruments modified from Hong Kong-style&#13;<br \/>\nfolding stools.
