To cater to the growth in UK-China trade, DHL Global Forwarding has&#13;<br \/>\nlaunched a new rail-sea freight solution that will link businesses in China&#13;<br \/>\nwith customers in the UK, and vice versa, in 18 to 20 days. Compared to ocean&#13;<br \/>\nfreight that would typically take 40 days, the new service cuts transit time by&#13;<br \/>\nmore than half.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/149877\/-ENG-DHL.jpg#image-149877\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Since the&#13;<br \/>\nstart of the pandemic, rail has emerged as a <a href=\"https:\/\/lot.dhl.com\/freight-capacity-demand-spurs-china-europe-rail-boom\/\">popular alternative<\/a> for shippers who balk at hefty air freight rates as a&#13;<br \/>\nresult of capacity shortage, and eschew long ocean freight transit time due to&#13;<br \/>\nequipment and capacity shortages. Globally, the rail freight market is expected&#13;<br \/>\nto see a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reportlinker.com\/p06025329\/Rail-Freight-Global-Market-Report-COVID-19-Impact-and-Recovery-to.html?utm_source=GNW\">compounded annual growth rate of 9.9%<\/a> in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The UK&#13;<br \/>\nfaced numerous trade challenges in the past year, having to navigate economic and&#13;<br \/>\ntrade uncertainties over Brexit and during the pandemic, whilst managing new&#13;<br \/>\nUK-EU border regulations and processes at the dawn of the new Brexit era. As&#13;<br \/>\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/live\/2021\/apr\/13\/uk-economy-gdp-growth-covid-19-trade-us-inflation-markets-ftse-dow-business-live?page=with:block-607527ce8f088c820d865155#block-607527ce8f088c820d865155\">UK economy starts picking up<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e45496ec-82ff-4586-a062-20124739fcc1\">China celebrates record growth in Q1 2021<\/a>, trade between the two partners would be one&#13;<br \/>\nto watch,&#8221; said Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhl.com\/gci\">DHL Global Connectedness Index 2020<\/a>, China was ranked second by its share of the&#13;<br \/>\nUK&#8217;s international flows. In the first eight months of 2020, British exports to&#13;<br \/>\nChina <a href=\"https:\/\/focus.cbbc.org\/british-exports-to-china-surge-in-2020\/#.YIE5BGgzaF4\">rose by 10.7%, or \u00a3837 million (\u20ac982 million)<\/a>, even as the UK saw its overall exports fall&#13;<br \/>\nby 25% for the same period. In 2019, the <a href=\"https:\/\/commonslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/cbp-7379\/#:~:text=In%202019%3A,deficit%20of%20%2D%C2%A318.3%20billion.&amp;text=China%20accounted%20for%204.4%25%20of,fourth%20largest%20source%20of%20imports.\">most sought after British goods in China<\/a> were gold, petroleum and petroleum-related&#13;<br \/>\nproducts, and vehicles, while telecommunications and office equipment, and&#13;<br \/>\nelectrical machinery and appliances were <a href=\"https:\/\/commonslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/cbp-7379\/#:~:text=In%202019%3A,deficit%20of%20%2D%C2%A318.3%20billion.&amp;text=China%20accounted%20for%204.4%25%20of,fourth%20largest%20source%20of%20imports.\">key Chinese exports that made their way to the UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Consolidating&#13;<br \/>\ngoods from across China at DHL&#8217;s hub at Xi&#8217;an, China, the new service will&#13;<br \/>\ntransport the cargo by rail to Kaliningrad, Russia via Kazakhstan, Russia,&#13;<br \/>\nBelarus, and Lithuania, and then transferred to Immingham by sea, where the UK&#13;<br \/>\nimport customs and final delivery of the cargo to the consignees are processed.&#13;<br \/>\nThe service is jointly developed by DHL Global Forwarding China, Xi&#8217;an&#13;<br \/>\nInternational Inland Port Investment &amp; Development Group Co. Ltd, RZD&#13;<br \/>\nLogistics and RTSB Gmbh. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Steve&#13;<br \/>\nHuang, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Greater China, said, &#8220;Most China-UK&#13;<br \/>\nmultimodal routes often include Germany, Poland or the Netherlands as the&#13;<br \/>\nmidpoint for transfer from rail freight to sea or road freight. After Brexit,&#13;<br \/>\ngoing by these routes would incur additional customs procedures and fees.
