\ntools and updates designed to support the 5 key areas educators require to
\ncreate a holistic learning environment and move education forward: student

\npartnership with YouGov, Microsoft found that 71% of K-12 educators felt
\ntechnology has helped them improve their instruction and expanded their
\nteaching capacity.[1]<\/sup> With the rise of
\ndigital classrooms and hybrid learning environments, Microsoft recognizes how
\ncrucial it is to help teachers find new ways to engage students remotely. New
\ntools and solutions launched include Reading Progress, to enhance students reading
\nskills remotely, and features like Group Assignments and third-party app
\nintegrations in Microsoft Teams that will empower educators and support
\nstudents in their classroom experience. Other updates
\ninclude the availability of
\nMinecraft: Education Edition\u00a0outside the classroom and the launch of Reflect,
\na <\/span>Microsoft Teams app that provides teachers with capabilities that support
\ntheir students’ well-being virtually.<\/p>\n

\nReading Progress<\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nStudies show<\/a> that reading skills
\nhave declined for some students due to the pandemic. To reverse learning loss,
\neducators are seeking ways to evaluate their students’ progress, and help them
\nadvance at their own pace. With this in mind, Microsoft is introducing Reading
\nProgress, a free tool designed to support readers who are learning a new
\nlanguage or educators trying to raise students’ general comprehension.<\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\nWith Reading Progress, educators can:<\/p>\n

- Save time<\/b> by creating reading fluency assignments for
\neither the entire class or for individual students to complete independently.
\nTeachers can also review assignments with built-in auto-detect features for
\nEnglish language that analyze results and jump to any part of the recording to
\nreview detected words and passages.<\/li>\n- Visualize reading progress <\/b>with a holistic view
\nof data and insights, including accuracy rate and actionable feedback useful
\nfor guiding class progress.<\/span><\/li>\n- Engage students in independent practice<\/b> on their own time
\nwhere students can work at their own pace, record as many times as they like,
\nand make progress without pressure.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\n <\/p>\nAvailable prior to the next school year, Reading
\nProgress is free for all students and teachers using Microsoft Teams for
\nEducation, and is compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
\n(FERPA).<\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\nNew tools to support student engagement in
\nthe classroom<\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nMicrosoft is also enhancing Teams and other tools to
\nhelp educators unlock digital experiences that complement and enrich in-person
\nlearning. These new free offerings will be available ahead of the next school
\nyear and were inspired by insights from education experts, system leaders,
\neducators, and students alike.<\/p>\n- \n
- Group
\nassignments: <\/b><\/span>Educators
\ncan now organize their students into assignment groups so they can work
\ntogether to create, collaborate, and submit the same work.<\/span><\/li>\n- Use your
\nfavorite apps in Assignments:<\/b>
\nTeachers will now be able to issue assignments from a variety of third-party
\napps directly in Teams, saving time and increasing student creativity.<\/span><\/li>\n- Calendar
\nintegrations:<\/b> New
\ncalendar integrations allow students to see when their classes are and when
\nassignments are due in the Teams and Outlook calendars \u2013 all in one place.<\/span><\/li>\n- Learning Management System (LMS) Updates:<\/b> Microsoft is working with LMS providers such
\nas Instructure and Blackboard to improve integrations between LMS and Microsoft
\nTeams, Teams meetings, and OneDrive, providing a more seamless experience for
\neducators.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nMaking learning more engaging and fun<\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nEducators are recognizing how pivotal immersive
\nexperiences can be to engage students on a deeper level. To support them in seeking
\ndifferent ways to keep students actively engaged, Microsoft is releasing new
\nfeatures to Minecraft: Education Edition. This will provide more opportunities
\nfor students to play and learn in the classroom and out.<\/p>\n- \n
- Integrating Minecraft Education Edition with Teams and
\nFlipgrid<\/b>:
\nEducators can now embed a Flipgrid topic, Forms quiz, or assessment tool using
\nnew Resource links within a Minecraft world or lesson. Students on the other
\nhand, can open a Flipgrid Topic, record and share their creation, and invite
\nothers to join a world they have created\u2014with just a few clicks.<\/li>\n- Minecraft Education
\nEdition<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>for Camps and Clubs:<\/b>
\nBeginning this summer, camps, clubs, homeschool organizations, and nonprofits
\ncan purchase licenses for Minecraft: Education Edition\u00a0to support critical
\nthinking, collaboration, and game-based learning for all ages outside of the
\nclassroom.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\n <\/p>\nSupporting student well-being <\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nEmotional well-being is key to student success and
\nresearch shows that approaches to support student well-being are in high
\ndemand, but low supply.[2]<\/sup>
\nNew tools to equip educators with the ability to understand the complexities
\nstudents face, and their emotional state, as they guide them in navigating the
\nchallenges of today have also been introduced.<\/p>\n- \n
- Reflect<\/b><\/a>,<\/b> a free app in
\nMicrosoft Teams, provides a way for educators to
\ncreate regular check-ins in with individual students or classes to share how
\nthey are feeling, and help learners better understand how their emotions
\nmay impact their learning.<\/li>\n- Embedded tools in
\nOneNote and Teams,<\/b><\/a> such as praise badges and sticker packs, help students
\nand educators feel more connected and foster the growth of effective
\nrelationships.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThese will be critical in helping build students’ confidence and
\nenabling educators to facilitate valuable learning conversations in and beyond
\nthe classroom.<\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\n\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nEnabling safe and secure classrooms <\/b><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nLastly, with more learning taking place outside the
\nphysical school, the increase in digital traffic and the number of connected
\ndevices brings new challenges: from malicious attacks to uninvited guests in
\nthe digital classroom.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\nTo ensure students’ safety in digital and physical
\nspaces, Microsoft is launching Supervised Chat<\/b> in Teams. <\/b>\u00a0Available later this month, this feature allows
\ndesignated educators to initiate chats with students, while preventing students
\nfrom starting new chats unless an appropriate educator is present \u2014 meaning
\nstudents can engage in safe discussions.<\/p>\n
