These nonprofits join 19 other Microsoft Partners<br \/>\nincluding <a href=\"https:\/\/zillione.com\/\">ZILLIONe Systems Solutions<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rstone.co.kr\/41\">Redstone<br \/>\nSystem<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ddls.com.ph\/\">DDLS Philippines<\/a> to remove barriers for a more diverse workforce. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In<br \/>\n2020, we saw an incredible number of businesses which have pivoted to cloud.<br \/>\nWith this, being equipped with a digital skillset is fast becoming the currency<br \/>\nof our post-pandemic world. To unlock more for PwDs, it&#8217;s imperative that<br \/>\nskilling and employment opportunities in technical roles are front and center<br \/>\nof our economic reset in the region. Which is why we are so proud of the next step Microsoft is taking in<br \/>\nour accessibility journey, a 5-year commitment to help <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2021\/04\/28\/doubling-down-on-accessibility-microsofts-next-steps-to-expand-accessibility-in-technology-the-workforce-and-workplace\/\">bridge<br \/>\nthe global &#8220;Disability Divide&#8221;<\/a>, doubling down to expand what is possible with<br \/>\naccessible technology, opening doors for disabled talent to enter the workforce<br \/>\nand continuing our journey of disability inclusion in the workplace,&#8221; said<br \/>\nPratima Amonkar, Chair for D&amp;I and Accessibility for Microsoft APAC who<br \/>\nleads the Microsoft Enabler Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a roundtable discussion on digital<br \/>\nskills during a virtual visit to Asia Pacific yesterday, <b>Microsoft CEO,<br \/>\nSatya Nadella shared<\/b> that to transform society, we need to create<br \/>\nopportunities for the more than 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/teams\/noncommunicable-diseases\/sensory-functions-disability-and-rehabilitation\/world-report-on-disability\">billion<br \/>\npeople<\/a> in the world who have disabilities, so<br \/>\nthey can participate in the world economy. He shared the importance of having a<br \/>\ncontinuous learning mindset and reiterated Microsoft&#8217;s mission that is grounded<br \/>\non ensuring every person has the tools and skills that allow them to create,<br \/>\nbuild and change the communities they live and work in.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>PwDs hired by<br \/>\nemployer partners<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Zeus Oliveros<\/b> is<br \/>\none of the first PwDs to be hired through the program. He joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cognizant.com\/philippines\">Cognizant<br \/>\nPhilippines<\/a>&#8216; call center team as an Associate for three<br \/>\nand a half months doing callouts and data analysis. Through this experience, he<br \/>\nfound his passion for content development and marketing and is now looking for<br \/>\na role in that area.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kang Joohyun<\/b>, a<br \/>\nperson who is deaf, is currently employed in <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.cloocus.com\/\">Cloocus<\/a> Korea. While<br \/>\nshe is still new to the team and is learning about the company&#8217;s major sales<br \/>\nand purchasing structure, she will in time take a leading role in the cost<br \/>\naccounting department.<\/li>\n<li><b>Marcus Tan<\/b><b style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0<\/b>is<br \/>\na third-year student at Temasek Polytechnic with cerebral palsy. He joined\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nttdata.com\/sg\/en\/\">NTT Data<\/a>\u00a0in Singapore for a three-month internship in October 2020 and was tasked with<br \/>\ndeveloping an internal application. Following his internship, NTT Data<br \/>\nSingapore is now conducting talks to PwD students and their wider cohorts in local<br \/>\npolytechnics to raise awareness around diversity and inclusion.<\/li>\n<li><b>Jidapa Nitiwirakun<\/b><b style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0<\/b>and<b><br \/>\nThatsaphon Chikhunthod<\/b> are currently interning at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hello.global.ntt\/en-us\/\">NTT Asia Pacific (Thailand)<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">&#8216;s<\/span><br \/>\ninformation technology department while completing their degrees at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fr-ray.org\/pattaya-redemptorist-technological-college-for-people-with-disabilities\/\">Pattaya Redemptorist Technological College<\/a>. This internship has shown Thatsaphon that his physical<br \/>\ndisabilities do not inhibit his dreams of being a programmer; a career which he<br \/>\nfinds challenging as there are always new developments to learn, practice and<br \/>\napply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Building an inclusive economy in APAC \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Accessibility<br \/>\nmust be a priority. And every one of us will experience a form of disability at<br \/>\nsome point in our lives, whether temporary, situational, or permanent. By<br \/>\nempowering PwDs to fully participate in our economies, we are effectively<br \/>\nincreasing our productive population, and this can lead to a 1-7% rise in GDP. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft<br \/>\nprovides training in technology skills including cloud and artificial<br \/>\nintelligence, bi-monthly tech consult sessions where volunteer employees share<br \/>\ntheir tech expertise with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Teams. More than 120<br \/>\nPwDs have benefitted from these sessions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The<br \/>\nfeedback from the Microsoft Partners have been extremely encouraging. By supporting<br \/>\nthem through the program and enabling them to have a focused approach, our Partners<br \/>\nare seeing their cultures improve, their people becoming more inclusive and<br \/>\ntheir community being more empathetic.&#8221; Pratima continued. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft<br \/>\nhas rolled out 45 training hours focused on inclusive hiring and design as well<br \/>\nas assistive technologies enabled through artificial intelligence on Microsoft<br \/>\nAzure. Microsoft Partners receive education and training by NPOs, on topics<br \/>\nsuch as workplace modifications required and on how to best work with and<br \/>\nmentor PwDs. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The<br \/>\nlast seven months have been an incredible period of learning and growth for us<br \/>\nand our Partners and we have just begun the journey.
