As part of the plan, Microsoft will establish<br \/>\nits first datacenter region in the country to deliver trusted cloud services<br \/>\nlocally, with world-class data security, privacy, and the ability to store data<br \/>\nin-country. Microsoft also announced plans to skill an additional 1 million<br \/>\nMalaysians by end of 2023 to help create economic opportunities for people and<br \/>\nbusinesses in the digital era. Finally, Microsoft will help form the MYDigital Alliance<br \/>\nLeadership Council to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">collaborate<br \/>\non cloud-first and digital-native policy recommendations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/143367\/Bersama-Malaysia.jpg#image-143367\" width=\"500\"\/><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s announcement represents a significant<br \/>\nmilestone in Microsoft&#8217;s 28-year history in the country and supports the<br \/>\nGovernment of Malaysia&#8217;s MyDIGITAL goals to transform the country into a<br \/>\nregional leader in the digital economy. According to IDC&#8217;s research<sup>[1]<\/sup>, Microsoft&#8217;s investment in<br \/>\nMalaysia will help generate up to USD 4.6 billion<sup>[2]<\/sup> in new revenues for the<br \/>\ncountry&#8217;s ecosystem of local partners and cloud-consuming customers over the<br \/>\nnext four years. Additionally, the research estimates Microsoft, its partners,<br \/>\nand cloud-using customers will together contribute more than 19,000 new direct<br \/>\nand indirect jobs. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>YAB Tan Sri<br \/>\nMuhyiddin Yassin, Prime Minister of Malaysia said,\u00a0&#8220;As we cement the<br \/>\nMicrosoft partnership today, I hope this is just the first green shoots of a<br \/>\nbroader meadow of investments in Malaysia, for Microsoft and other data<br \/>\nplayers. Together, we stand with Malaysia,&#8221; said K Raman, Managing<br \/>\nDirector of Microsoft Malaysia. <i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Digital<\/b><b><br \/>\ninfrastructure and partnerships to<br \/>\nadvance Malaysia&#8217;s digital economy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft<br \/>\nwill establish its first datacenter region in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area and<br \/>\ndeliver access to the full Microsoft Cloud, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Microsoft Azure<\/b>, enabling anyone to invent with<br \/>\npurpose using cloud services and capabilities that span computing, networking,<br \/>\ndatabases, analytics, AI and Internet of Things;<\/li>\n<li><b style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Microsoft 365<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, to connect, collaborate, work<br \/>\nremotely and learn online with innovative productivity tools;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Dynamics 365 and Power Platform<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, to rapidly build and manage<br \/>\ncritical enterprise business solutions at scale with intelligent business<br \/>\napplications.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new datacenter region will also deliver <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/global-infrastructure\/availability-zones\/\">Azure<br \/>\nAvailability Zones<\/a>, providing additional resilience options for highly<br \/>\navailable applications, and\u00a0 support<br \/>\nMicrosoft&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/16\/microsoft-will-be-carbon-negative-by-2030\/\">sustainability<br \/>\ngoals<\/a>. Microsoft has a global commitment to shift to 100<br \/>\npercent supply of renewable energy by 2025. This means Microsoft will have<br \/>\npower purchase agreements for green energy contracted for 100 percent of carbon-emitting<br \/>\nelectricity consumed by all its datacenters, buildings, and campuses, including<br \/>\nthe planned Malaysia datacenter region.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft will work with the government, startups, and<br \/>\nenterprises to support the country&#8217;s digital transformation goals. Specifically,<br \/>\nMicrosoft in partnership with the Social<br \/>\n&amp; Economic Research Initiative (SERI) has established the MYDigital Alliance Leadership Council to collaborate on<br \/>\ncloud-first and digital-native policy recommendations. The Alliance&#8217;s first<br \/>\nmeeting discussed digitalization in the education sector to nurture a globally<br \/>\ncompetitive Malaysian digital workforce. Additionally, Malaysia&#8217;s leading companies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.petronas.com\/\">Petroliam Nasional<br \/>\nBerhad (PETRONAS)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celcom.com.my\/personal\">Celcom<br \/>\nAxiata Berhad<\/a> have committed to helping advance Malaysia&#8217;s nation<br \/>\nbuilding and digital ambitions, as well as using the Microsoft Cloud from the<br \/>\nnew datacenter region when available.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The partnership with Microsoft<br \/>\nunderlines PETRONAS&#8217; commitment to nurturing a sustainable pipeline of a<br \/>\nfuture-ready workforce equipped to support Malaysia&#8217;s digital economy. Microsoft<br \/>\nwill also partner with Censof Holdings, Silverlake Group, and Web Bytes to<br \/>\naccelerate digital transformation in the nation&#8217;s key industries, including<br \/>\nfinancial services, retail, food, and beverage, as well as the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Empowering<br \/>\nMalaysians with inclusive opportunities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Bersama Malaysia initiative, Microsoft<br \/>\nis committed to equipping individuals with equal opportunities to thrive in a cloud<br \/>\nand AI-enabled digital economy. To achieve this, Microsoft will skill an<br \/>\nadditional 1 million Malaysians by December 2023. This includes work with the Human<br \/>\nResources Development Fund, Social Security Organization, Junior Achievement<br \/>\nMalaysia, TalentCorp Malaysia, MAMPU, Grab Malaysia, Biji-Biji Enterprise and local<br \/>\nuniversities to reach people of all socio-economic backgrounds, including young<br \/>\nadults and people living with disabilities.
