The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting&#13;<br \/>\neconomic downturn has had a significant impact across the Asia Pacific, and&#13;<br \/>\nMalaysia was not spared. With that said, optimism is already starting to show,&#13;<br \/>\nwith about 33% of companies in Malaysia looking to increase their headcount and&#13;<br \/>\n40% maintaining status quo in 2021. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/139083\/Paul-Cooper.jpg#image-139083\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"text-align: start\">Paul Cooper, Managing Director of\u00a0<\/span>Michael Page Malaysia<span style=\"text-align: start\">, Thailand &amp; Vietnam<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Paul Cooper, Managing Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michaelpage.com.my\/salary-guide\">Michael Page Malaysia<\/a>, Thailand&#13;<br \/>\n&amp; Vietnam, says, &#8220;From July&#13;<br \/>\n2020 onwards, various sectors in Malaysia began to experience steady recovery.&#13;<br \/>\nFor example, the technology sector remained buoyant throughout 2020, with&#13;<br \/>\nbusinesses placing emphasis on business intelligence, data analytics, as well&#13;<br \/>\nas software development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In&#13;<br \/>\nview of the economic demands, the sectors earmarked for highest hiring activity&#13;<br \/>\nare technology &amp; fintech, global business services\/shared service centers, fast&#13;<br \/>\nmoving consumer goods (FMCG), healthcare &amp; life sciences as well as&#13;<br \/>\nengineering &amp; manufacturing. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>According to the report, digital transformation continues to have major implications in the&#13;<br \/>\nHong Kong market. The appetite for tech functions across all industries is&#13;<br \/>\nhigh, especially in the commerce and financial services sectors. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>In addition&#13;<br \/>\nto Malaysia&#8217;s anticipated employment activity, Paul Cooper sees more&#13;<br \/>\nopportunities for professionals, &#8220;Demand for talent within the semiconductors&#13;<br \/>\nand consumer electronics also sustained the engineering and manufacturing&#13;<br \/>\nsectors in Malaysia. As a major producer of medical devices, Malaysia&#8217;s&#13;<br \/>\nhealthcare sector also experienced a significant increase in demand for talent&#13;<br \/>\nfrom the manufacturing and supply chain perspectives, specifically those with a&#13;<br \/>\nstrong digital focus around invoicing, tracking and processing.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>According&#13;<br \/>\nto the report, 66% of employed professionals anticipate looking for new&#13;<br \/>\nopportunities in 2021 while 31% of respondents say they do extensive research&#13;<br \/>\nbefore applying for a job. This suggests increased employment activity in Malaysia&#13;<br \/>\nwithin a candidate pool who are becoming increasingly empowered with a wealth&#13;<br \/>\nof information.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Paul&#13;<br \/>\nCooper advises, &#8220;Business leaders are encouraged to remain agile and adapt work&#13;<br \/>\npractices and strategies to reflect a new working environment.
