\n–\u00a0Media OutReach<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a025 March 2021 – <\/b>Since the
\nstart of the pandemic, workforce competencies have had to evolve, resulting in
\nthe increasing importance for adaptive skills in the workplace. In particular,
\nmore employers say that Effective Communication is key to business viability,
\nmaking it the increasingly most sought-after skill (voted by 68% in 2021 vs 48%
\nin 2020). <\/span>This is one of
\nthe key findings in the recent NTUC
\nLearningHub<\/a>‘s Employer Skills Survey report.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/135842\/ESS-Press-Image-1.jpeg#image-135842\")
<\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nThe survey, which was conducted in February 2021 with
\nbusiness leaders across Singapore, aimed to uncover the most in-demand
\nskillsets a year after the pandemic. The findings include the top skills by
\nindustry cluster: Built Environment, Essential Domestic Services, Lifestyle,
\nManufacturing and Professional Services, and Trade and Connectivity.<\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nAs the job market evolves to
\nadapt to the long-lasting impact of COVID-19 on the workplace, more employers
\nrequire workers to possess both adaptive and digital skills that enable them to
\nwork remotely in new environments. Effective Communication, an adaptive skill
\nthat helps close information gaps in times of uncertainty, establish clear
\nexpectations, and align purpose among employees, has become increasingly
\nimportant in industries including Manufacturing (74%), Essential Domestic
\nServices (71%), and Lifestyle (50%). <\/span><\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nOverall,
\nwhile digital skills were voted by many employers, adaptive skills have topped
\nthe list of competencies which are business imperatives while having increased
\nin importance. Teamwork is the second most important skill (55% in 2021 vs 52%
\nin 2020), followed by Leadership (53% in 2021 vs 45% in 2020), Negotiation and
\nInfluencing skills (51% in 2021 vs 46% in 2020) and Digital Marketing (50% in
\n2021 vs 44% in 2020).<\/span><\/p>\nCommenting
\non the findings, NTUC LHUB’s Chairman Eugene Wong, says, “As businesses adapt
\nnew modes of working, effective communication is crucial for companies to relay
\nnew systems and ways of doing businesses amongst their workforce. Teamwork and
\ndecisive leadership are also key to navigating the new world order. In
\naddition, as companies push for digitalisation to attract and retain consumers
\nonline, digital marketing remains a top skill. To future-proof a company’s
\nviability as well as one’s employability, it is imperative to possess a hybrid
\nset of coveted adaptive and digital skills.”<\/p>\n

\ncontinues to leave an indelible mark on the economy and jobs at large. To keep
\nviable, many companies which have been pandemic-stricken have had to pivot
\nbusiness models and find new revenue streams. The workforce competencies
\nrequired to support new ways of doing business therefore have to evolve and
\nworkers could stand to benefit from identifying these sought-after skills and
\nupskill themselves where necessary,” he adds.<\/span><\/p>\n
