The criminals sent&#13;<br \/>\nextortion notes threatening to disrupt the firms&#8217; websites and digital&#13;<br \/>\nservices. The threat actor methodically moved across jurisdictions in Europe,&#13;<br \/>\nNorth America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, hitting dozens of institutions&#13;<br \/>\nwithin weeks. Members were able to keep up with the rapid pace of attacks using the&#13;<br \/>\nFS-ISAC Intelligence Exchange&#8217;s secure chat and intelligence sharing&#13;<br \/>\ncapabilities, which enables industry collaboration and discussion in real&#13;<br \/>\ntime.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>To increase industry-wide cross-border cyber intelligence&#13;<br \/>\nsharing, FS-ISAC launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsisac.com\/globalleaders?utm_campaign=GlobalLeaders&amp;utm_source=press&amp;utm_medium=release\">Global&#13;<br \/>\nLeaders award program<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsisac.com\/globalleaders?utm_campaign=GlobalLeaders&amp;utm_source=press&amp;utm_medium=release\">.<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsisac.com\/globalleaders?utm_campaign=GlobalLeaders&amp;utm_source=press&amp;utm_medium=release\">&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a>This is a company effort to elevate the profiles of members in the&#13;<br \/>\nfinancial services community who actively share cyber intelligence and best&#13;<br \/>\npractices across borders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s cyber criminals know no borders. An attack on a&#13;<br \/>\nbank in Asia could be a harbinger for an attack on an insurance company in the&#13;<br \/>\nUS, a stock exchange in Latin America, or a fintech in Europe,&#8221; said <b>Teresa Walsh, Global Head of Intelligence&#13;<br \/>\nat FS-ISAC.<\/b> &#8220;This wave of attacks has shown how critical global cyber&#13;<br \/>\nintelligence sharing is. Members sharing specific details of attacks enable&#13;<br \/>\nother members to prepare and defend against them, lowering the return on&#13;<br \/>\ninvestment for threat actors.
