However, the strong support from local suppliers just minutes from&#13;<br \/>\ntheir store means they always have resources to tap on.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>2. Having to pre-book stalks&#13;<br \/>\nahead of time to fulfil orders that came in as early as 14 January, there was a&#13;<br \/>\nneed to keep these flowers at best from the moment they arrived. Building a new&#13;<br \/>\ncold-room to store all her fresh flowers proved effective. Now, she could&#13;<br \/>\npurchase more in advance and store flowers safely to complete the hundreds of&#13;<br \/>\norders that will trickle in on the week of Valentine&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Her&#13;<br \/>\nbrand new fleet of vans that are delivery-ready is also something Wendy can&#8217;t&#13;<br \/>\nget enough of. &#8220;They are bigger, so they can hold more flowers. I no longer&#13;<br \/>\nhave to worry about the lack of resources to complete my orders on the&#13;<br \/>\nlast-mile.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Investments&#13;<br \/>\nsuch as these, she notes, are necessary when you consider a long-term&#13;<br \/>\nperspective.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>3. Go digital<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Fresh&#13;<br \/>\nflowers must always be delivered on time, so Wendy found a solution in a&#13;<br \/>\ncustom-built GPS where delivery locations are optimised to each driver on the&#13;<br \/>\nroad. Hiring a programmer was necessary for this, she says, adding that&#13;<br \/>\nbusinesses must look towards streamlining processes and simplifying workflows&#13;<br \/>\nwith the help of technology wherever possible. &#8220;Embrace the technologies and&#13;<br \/>\nmake them work for you.&#8221;<b\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>4. Expand your team<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>After&#13;<br \/>\nobserving month-on-month growth in sales, Wendy knew her team would not be able&#13;<br \/>\nto handle the uptick in orders when the peak season arrives. In a strategic&#13;<br \/>\nmove, she invested in experienced florists and customer service assistants&#13;<br \/>\ntrained to work collaboratively on day-to-day operations. First, she ensures to cap her orders within her production and&#13;<br \/>\noperational capacities, so nobody &#8211; florists and drivers &#8211; is overworked and no&#13;<br \/>\norder is compromised.
