The VinFuture Prize is officially open for&#13;<br \/>\nnominations until June 7, 2021.<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/122416\/Photo-1.jpg#image-122416\" width=\"500\"\/><br \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><i>On January 20, 2021,&#13;<br \/>\nthe Inaugural Prize Council Meeting took place. It was agreed that nominations&#13;<br \/>\nwill be sought from all nations.<\/i><i\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The nomination criteria&#13;<br \/>\nhave been developed and agreed upon by the Prize Council, which comprises 11&#13;<br \/>\nworld-renowned scientists. There are nine key eligibility criteria for the&#13;<br \/>\nGrand Prize and the three Special Prizes.\u00a0There are further criteria for&#13;<br \/>\neach prize category.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img src=\"https:\/\/release.media-outreach.com\/release.php\/Images\/Thumb\/500x0\/122423\/Photo-2.jpg#image-122423\" width=\"500\"\/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><i>Members&#13;<br \/>\nof VinFuture Prize Council and VinFuture Pre-screening Committee gathered in&#13;<br \/>\nViet Nam\u00a0to agree on the nomination criteria.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>In the context of the&#13;<br \/>\nglobal vision for the VinFuture Foundation, the prizes will be awarded for&#13;<br \/>\nfundamental advances in science and engineering that align with the 17&#13;<br \/>\nSustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, including&#13;<br \/>\neradicating poverty and hunger, enhancing health and quality of life, promoting&#13;<br \/>\naccess to quality education, clean water, and renewable energy, reducing&#13;<br \/>\ninequality or addressing climate change.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>What makes the VinFuture&#13;<br \/>\nPrize&#8217;s nomination criteria unique is the requirement for clear evidence of the&#13;<br \/>\nimpact on millions of people in the past or next ten years. Breakthroughs in&#13;<br \/>\nscience must result in positive impacts for humankind on a global scale. This&#13;<br \/>\nis an integral criterion, consistent with the mission of &#8220;creating&#13;<br \/>\nmeaningful change in the everyday lives of millions of people by promoting&#13;<br \/>\nbreakthrough scientific research and technological innovations&#8221; that VinFuture&#13;<br \/>\nhas set forth.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The VinFuture Prize&#13;<br \/>\ncalls for nominations to be submitted by eligible nominators including&#13;<br \/>\nrecognised organisations such as universities, research institutes, national&#13;<br \/>\nacademies of sciences, networks, professional associations, technology and&#13;<br \/>\nindustrial corporates or businesses, incubators, as well as prominent&#13;<br \/>\nindividuals in relevant fields. <\/p>\n<p>Prof. Sir&#13;<br \/>\nRichard Henry Friend &#8211; Chair of the VinFuture Prize Council commented:\u00a0<i>&#8220;We&#13;<br \/>\nneed cooperation on a global scale to tackle the global challenges we now face,&#13;<br \/>\nsuch as infectious diseases, public health and climate change. For these, we&#13;<br \/>\nnow recognise that science and technology must deliver benefits to all peoples&#13;<br \/>\nand all nations.\u00a0The VinFuture prizes will recognise those whose brilliant&#13;<br \/>\nscience or engineering can have positive impact on the lives of millions of&#13;<br \/>\npeople across the planet.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Concurrent&#13;<br \/>\nwith the release of the nomination criteria, the VinFuture Prize has officially&#13;<br \/>\nopened its call for nominations worldwide from February 3, 2021 to June 7,&#13;<br \/>\n2021.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>VinFuture&#13;<br \/>\nFoundation&#8217;s Founder, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong &#8212; Chairman of Vingroup&#13;<br \/>\nremarked:\u00a0&#8220;<i>Apart from recognising exceptional scientists worldwide,&#13;<br \/>\nVinFuture wishes to promote and bring research work and inventions into life&#13;<br \/>\nfor the betterment of humankind. I hope that the VinFuture Prize can discover&#13;<br \/>\nand recognise the most deserving scientists and inventors as well as projects&#13;<br \/>\nthat bring about great values to millions of people.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nVinFuture Foundation and VinFuture Prize were introduced on December 20, 2020.&#13;<br \/>\nAs an annual global prize for science and technology, VinFuture Prize is one of&#13;<br \/>\nthe most valuable prizes to date with its total prize value of VND104.5 billion&#13;<br \/>\n(equivalent to US$4.5 million).<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Its VND70&#13;<br \/>\nbillion Grand\u00a0Prize (equivalent to US$3 million) will be awarded to those&#13;<br \/>\nwhose groundbreaking research and technological inventions are proven to&#13;<br \/>\npossibly better the life of humankind and foster a sustainable living&#13;<br \/>\nenvironment for future generations.\u00a0Three special prizes, each at VND11.5&#13;<br \/>\nbillion (equivalent to US$500,000) will be awarded to innovators from&#13;<br \/>\ndeveloping countries; female innovators and innovators with outstanding&#13;<br \/>\nachievements in emerging fields.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nVinFuture Laureates are selected by an independent Prize Council &#8211; a global and&#13;<br \/>\ndiverse team of distinguished individuals from academia, research and industry,&#13;<br \/>\nall of whom are globally renowned for their achievements and contribution in&#13;<br \/>\nthe field of science, technology and industry in advancing human progress.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/p>\n<p>Nominators&#13;<br \/>\nare from different countries and territories ranging from Algeria, Belgium,&#13;<br \/>\nmainland China, Denmark, France, Ghana, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia,&#13;<br \/>\nJapan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Nigeria, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, South&#13;<br \/>\nKorea, Sudan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, to the United&#13;<br \/>\nStates.\u00a0Nominators also come from universities such as Cornell University,&#13;<br \/>\nHarvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University,&#13;<br \/>\nTsinghua University, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania,&#13;<br \/>\nUniversity of Toronto or Yale University, to name just a few.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13; <\/i><\/li>\n<p>&#13; <\/p>\n<li><i>Solutions should&#13;<br \/>\n     have\u00a0already benefited millions of people\u00a0in the past 10 years&#13;<br \/>\n     for the Grand Prize, or have the\u00a0potential to benefit millions of&#13;<br \/>\n     people\u00a0in the next 10 years for the Special Prizes; <\/i><\/li>\n<p>&#13; <\/p>\n<li><i>Solutions should be aligned&#13;<br \/>\n     with one or more of the\u00a0United Nation&#8217;s Sustainable Development&#13;<br \/>\n     Goals; <\/i><\/li>\n<p>&#13; <\/p>\n<li><i>Solutions must&#13;<br \/>\n     be\u00a0scientifically proven\u00a0(i.e.\u00a0there should be clear&#13;<br \/>\n     evidence of passing relevant scientific trials, and in the case of&#13;<br \/>\n     research, it must be empirically proven or widely reviewed);<\/i><\/li>\n<p>&#13; <\/p>\n<li><i>Open to researchers or&#13;<br \/>\n     inventors who were involved in developing the underlying solutions, and&#13;<br \/>\n     not entrepreneurs or corporates who helped in commercialisation\/diffusion&#13;<br \/>\n     of the technology; <\/i><\/li>\n<p>&#13; <\/p>\n<li><i>End-products of the research&#13;<br \/>\n     should benefit\u00a0people globally, including those from developing and&#13;<br \/>\n     less developed countries, as well as lower-income and disadvantaged&#13;<br \/>\n     communities;
