The<br \/>\n&#8216;X&#8217; factor is senior leadership and people managers who create the motivational<br \/>\nenergy that compels employees to action even when they are working remotely. Being included in Kincentric Best Employers in<br \/>\nMalaysia Hall of Fame is an incredible validation of our relationship with our<br \/>\ncolleagues,&#8221; said Ryan Lai, Vice President and General Manager of American<br \/>\nExpress Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>American Express won<br \/>\nKincentric Best of the Best Employer in Malaysia 2020 by delivering an<br \/>\nexceptional people-centric experience through three key areas &#8212; trust, open<br \/>\ncommunication and top team alignment. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lai says, &#8220;Our first focus<br \/>\nand priority was ensuring our colleagues felt safe and had the flexibility and<br \/>\nresources they needed at home to continue delivering world class services to<br \/>\nour customers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Hlk61339746\">&#8220;<\/a>When we moved to work from home<br \/>\narrangements, we introduced an initiative called business leave, to allow<br \/>\ncolleagues to take paid time off without having to use their annual leave when they<br \/>\nhad valid reasons at home that prevented time from being able to work, such as<br \/>\nneeding to care for their children or parents&#8217; needs until end of 2020. For<br \/>\ncolleagues who had their work or job scope impacted by the pandemic, we<br \/>\nreallocated them to other business areas to keep them motivated, engaged and invested<br \/>\nin delivering their best,&#8221; said Anjum Ghaffar, Director Human Resources, Market<br \/>\nHead Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing the<br \/>\nimportance of a health and wellness culture from the start of the pandemic,<br \/>\nAmerican Express Malaysia embarked on three key initiatives beginning with the<br \/>\nlaunch of a telehealth service called <i>CareClix<\/i><br \/>\nfor colleagues and their immediate family members. Available 24 hours a day, 7<br \/>\ndays a week for free, colleagues and their loved ones could consult doctors and<br \/>\naccess expert medical care via phone, video chat or a mobile app from the<br \/>\ncomfort of their homes. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company also provided<br \/>\na one-year complimentary subscription for <i>Calm<\/i>,<br \/>\na mental fitness app that provides motivational podcasts, stories and soothing<br \/>\nmusic designed to help manage stress, experience better sleep and reduce<br \/>\nanxiety. The app completed other dedicated wellbeing activities such as mental<br \/>\nwellbeing sessions, virtual meditation and virtual yoga. Helping to alleviate<br \/>\nmedical concerns, colleagues and their enrolled dependents were also provided<br \/>\nwith enhanced Covid-19 medical coverage covering testing, hospitalization and<br \/>\ndeath benefits at no additional cost to them.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With a young workforce<br \/>\ncomposed of mostly millennials, American Express also found many of them faced<br \/>\ndifficulties especially during the lockdown and with transition to working from<br \/>\nhome. Having never experienced a crisis in their professional life, inherent<br \/>\nstresses and anxiety from being isolated had a greater impact on younger<br \/>\ncolleagues. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognized that we<br \/>\nneeded to support each other, so we quickly mobilized ourselves into action.<br \/>\nCommunication was a key part of our support and wellbeing strategy, and we knew<br \/>\nwe had to do so not only frequently but meaningfully,&#8221; explained Lai.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite having achieved<br \/>\nso much the past 10 years, American Express is not resting on its laurels. The<br \/>\ncompany expects a hybrid working model will be the next big change for employee<br \/>\nengagement and is already looking at how to better connect colleagues with<br \/>\ncorporate culture in a virtual world. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lai concludes, &#8220;We are<br \/>\nbeyond honored to be recognized as the &#8216;Best of the Best&#8217; by Kincentric Best<br \/>\nEmployers 2020, particularly in a year of unpredicted changes that tested our<br \/>\nability to adapt and brave new ways of working together.
