One VinFuture Special Prize for breakthrough
\n research or innovations in an emerging field of science and technology
\n that has significant future potential to create positive change for
\n humanity. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Nominations will be solicited from
\na large, diverse pool of distinguished nominators, including globally renowned
\nscientists and innovators, academic institutions, technology corporations, and
\nprestigious innovation incubators in all countries. <\/p>\n
An independent\u00a0Prize Council<\/i>,
\nconsisting of distinguished, globally renowned experts from academia, research
\nand industry, will adjudicate the Prize each year. Members of the Prize Council
\ncome from diverse sciences and professional disciplines, cultures, and
\nviewpoints, including\u00a0Prof. G\u00e9rard Albert Mourou<\/b>\u00a0(\u00c9cole
\nPolytechnique, 2018 Nobel Prize winner);\u00a0Prof. Sir Richard Henry Friend,
\nFRS <\/b>(Cavendish Professor of Physics at the University of Cambridge,
\n2010 Millennium Technology Prize winner);\u00a0Prof. Jennifer Tour Chayes<\/b>\u00a0(University
\nof California Berkeley, Founders of three Microsoft Research Labs);\u00a0Prof.
\nMichael Eugene Porter<\/b>\u00a0(Harvard University, the founder of modern
\ncompetitive strategy);\u00a0Prof. Leslie Gabriel Valiant, FRS\u00a0<\/b>(Harvard
\nUniversity, 2010 A.M.Turing Award winner);\u00a0Prof. Pascale Cossart<\/b>\u00a0(Pasteur
\nInstitute of Paris, the foremost authority on Listeria monocytogenes);\u00a0Prof.
\n Sir Kostya S. Novoselov, FRS <\/b> <\/b> (University of Manchester, Tan
\nChin Tuan Centennial Professor at the National University of Singapore , 2010 Nobel Prize winner); Prof. Van-Chi Dang<\/b>\u00a0(Ludwig
\nInstitute for Cancer Research Director);
\nProf. Ha-Van Vu<\/b> (Percey F. Smith Professor of Mathematics and Data Science
\nat Yale University); Dr. Xuedong Huang<\/b>\u00a0(Microsoft CTO);\u00a0\u00a0Dr.
\nPadmanabhan Anandan<\/b>\u00a0(Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence
\nCEO).<\/p>\n
The founders have personally
\ncommitted an initial amount of US$ 100 million, which would be further enhanced in
\nthe future to fund the VinFuture Prize’s resources and administration process,
\nensuring sustainability of the Foundation’s long-term operations. VinFuture
\nFoundation, an independent, non-profit foundation, will manage the VinFuture
\nPrize. The Advisory Council, which comprises of internationally recognised Vietnamese innovators,
\nresearchers, and industry leaders, co-chaired by Prof.<\/b> V\u0169 H\u00e0 V\u0103n<\/b>, Yale
\nUniversity, and Prof.<\/b> Nguy\u1ec5n Th\u1ee5c Quy\u00ean<\/b>, University of
\nCalifornia Santa Barbara, will support the Founder in providing strategic
\nadvice to the Foundation.<\/p>\n
The Prize is the vision and
\nbrainchild of Mr. and Mrs. Ph\u1ea1m. “Creating positive change and having a
\ndirect impact on people’s lives — this has always been my purpose — in business
\nand life. The events of 2020 show that now more than ever, we need to bring
\ntogether extraordinary individuals with good hearts and great minds, who can
\nstrive towards <\/i><\/b> realising <\/i><\/b> the power of science and
\ntechnology in overcoming our toughest global challenges, and improving people’s
\nlives,” <\/i><\/b> said
\nMr. Ph\u1ea1m Nh\u1eadt V\u01b0\u1ee3ng, regarding his motivations behind conceptualising this prize. <\/p>\n
Nominations for the first edition
\nof the Prize will be open from January to June 2021. The names of the selected
\nVinFuture Prize Laureates will be announced on December 2021. The official
\nprize award ceremony will be hosted in Viet Nam in January 2022. <\/p>\n
