Bhubaneswar, 9/9 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty ) : Students’ power cannot be compared and distinguished with any other power. It is the responsibility of everyone to utilize this effective students’ force in betterment of nation. This was opined by the speakers while addressing the two days workshop on “Capacity Building of Students on Disaster Management”, conducted by Ramadevi Women’s (Autonomous) College and sponsored by Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) to create awareness about the role of students during and after disasters.
The programme is designed to equip the students with basic lessons in disaster preparedness, survival skills, light search & rescue and basic first aid. OSDMA has taken up the initiative to train the college students in order to handle the emergency situations like natural disasters and accidents. Ramadevi Women’s (Autonomous) College, NSS Unit, NSS and Red Cross Wings under the guidance of Capt. Dr. Kalpana Das, Reader in History, Dr. Mamata Patri, Reader in History and Dr. Anuja Mohapatra, Reader in Sociology, has taken the initiative to start this programme in the institution.
Inaugurating the programme as Chief Guest, Prof. Chitrangada Samantsinghar, Principal of the College emphasized that disaster preparedness and management for every man, particularly among the women is necessary like food, shelter and dress are the basic needs for survival.
Prasant Nayak, Commandant, OSDMA along with along with the team mates trained 120 students during the programme. Dr. Sarita Supakar, Reader in Economics has coordinated the programme. Sushil Kumar Pattnaik, HOD, Music managed the event.
