Bhubaneswar, 31/03/2017 ( Odisha Samachar )- Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Sri Radha Mohan Singh is slated to visit ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar on 1 st April 2017. The Minister would inaugurate 30 th Annual Day celebration of this Institute. He would also address “Krushak Sangosthi” being organized as a part of Annual Day celebrations. Over 400 people comprising researchers, farmers, entrepreneurs and govt. officials are expected to attend. The Minister will be accompanied by Dr T. Mahapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR; Sri Chhabilendra Roul, Secretary, ICAR and Additional Secretary DARE; Dr J. K. Jena, DDG (Fisheries Science), ICAR, New Delhi. Among others Dr N. Pasupalak, VC, OUAT, Bhubaneswar; Dr Ajay Parida, Director, ILS; Dr H. Pathak, Director, ICAR- NRRI; Dr B. Pattnaik, Project Director, FMD; Dr. S.K. Amast, Director, ICAR-IIWM and Dr. ( Mrs) Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA would be present. An exhibition is also being organized to showcase Institute’s technologies, products and publications, informs Dr J. K. Sundaray, Director ICAR-CIFA.
The Institute established on this very day, 3 decades ago, has contributed immensely towards growth and development of the freshwater aquaculture sector. Farm worthy technologies developed and perfected by this institute has enabled the country become second highest fish producer in the world.
The Institute lays adequate emphasis for transfer of technologies among the end users. Besides research, the institute is also involved in Livelihood development, empowerment of women, entrepreneurship development; training and skill development in aquaculture. The Institute is operating several flagship schemes of Govt. of India which includes Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav; Farmer First Project; Swachh Bharat Ahbiyan etc.
