Tribute paid to martyrs on ‘Saheed Divas’

English 5Navrangpur ( Odisha Samachar /Cr Basant Rath ) – On the eve of the saheed divas at Papadahandi rich tribute paid to the freedom fighters who died during the freedom struggle.  On 24th August during the Quit India Movement  a large procession proceeded to Dabugam to decide the course of action of as soon as the procession reached the bridge on the Turi river of Papadahandi, British Police forces resorted lathi charge and firing nineteen persons were killed, while a large number of people jumped into the overflowing Turi river to swim across for safety. Hundred were injured while 140 were put under arrest.  To commemorate the sacrifices every year Saheed Divas being celebrated at Papadahandi Saheed Pitha.
At a function held at the saheed Pitha Vice-Chaiman of Orissa
Planning Board, Surendra Nath Nayak was the chief guest, while Sports
and youth affairs Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, MLAs, Bhujabala
Majhi, Monahar Randhari, and Subash Gond, ZP President Motiram Nayak, Former MLA Sadan Nayak, DIPRO Bhujang Bhusan Rao, Papadahandi  BDO Ratnakar Sahu, Somanath Bissoyi,  paid tribute to the nineteen martyrs who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle. ADM Bhimman Seth, presided over the meeting, Family members of the freedom fighters were felicitated at the function. Cultural programmes were performed by the students of Aurobindo School, Papdahandi.
