Rourkela 6/9 (Odisha Samachar / Satyananda Behera) – “Teachers show us the way for our development” said Mr. GS Prasad, CEO, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), while addressing teachers and students on 5th September on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day Celebrations at Civic Centre. Mr. GS Prasad was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Manjari Prasad, President Deepika Mahila Sanghati, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Recalling the immense contribution for the cause of education of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, whose birthday was celebrated as Teachers’ Day in keeping with his wish, CEO mentioned that whatever position he held, whether as President or Vice-President or even as Ambassador, he essentially remained a teacher all his life. Quoting Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr. Prasad recalled that he had famously said “Dr. Radhakrishnan has served his country in many capacities. But above all, he is a great Teacher from whom all of us have learnt much and will continue to learn.”
CEO then went on to elaborate on the many noble qualities of teachers and how they held an exalted position in society as the architects of the future generations’ success and achievements. He fondly recalled the great ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ which was the hallmark of the education system of India and stressed on the need for reviving and revitalising the system as it was a concept which was timeless and relevant at all times, more so in today’s context. He exhorted all teachers to strive to bring Rourkela up as the No. 1 city in education in the state and advised both teachers and students to complement each others’ efforts towards this end.
Earlier, Mrs. Manjari Prasad felicitated Ispat English Medium School, (IEMS) Sector-20 and Ispat Vidya Mandir,(IVM) Sector-19 which bagged the Academic Excellence Award, 2014, by presenting mementos to the Principals of the schools.
Mr. Umesh Kumar, ED(MM), Mr. M.K. Das, ED (Projects), Mrs. Sharmishta Das, Vice-President Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mr. S.K. Acharya, ED (Projects), Mrs. Jyotsna Acharya, Vice-President Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mr. Manabendra Misra, ED (P&A), Mr. Ashwini Kumar, ED (Works), Mrs. Sabita Kumar, Vice-President Deepika Mahila Sanghati many senior officers of RSP, and teachers and students of different RSP run schools were present on the occasion.
Mr. GS Prasad inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp and offered floral tributes at the portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan along with other dignitaries present. An opening song ‘Guru Vandana’ was presented by the Choir Group of IEMS, Sector-20. Ms. Swosti Bharati Parida of 1st Year Arts of IVM Sector-19, Ms. Pallavi Priyadarshini of Class-VIII, IEMS Sector-22 and Ms. Damini Bhoi of Class-XII, IEMS, Sector-20 spoke on the theme ‘Tribute to Teachers’ in Odia, Hindi and English respectively. In his address, Mr. Manabendra Misra, ED (P&A), mentioned that the teachers were shapers of destiny.
An impressive cultural programme presented by students of IVM Sector-19, IV, Sector-18, IEMS, Sector-20 and IEMS, Sector-22 was the highlight of the evening. Mr. S B Rath, DGM, Education welcomed the gathering and Mr. SK Mishra Deputy Manager, Education proposed a vote of thanks. Ms. Shriyanka Mohapatra of Class-XII, IEMS, Sector-20 and Ms. Ashajyoti Sahu of 1st Year Science, IVM, Sector-19 were the comperes.
