STUNNED BY THE SPELL-BINDING PERFORMACE OF KATHAK AND CARNATIK VOCAL

 

Bhubaneswar ,09/09/2017 ( Odisha Samachar )-  It was the fourth-day evening of OMC GKCM Award Festival organized by Srjan at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar showcasing the beautiful blend of elegance, purity, precision and aesthetics of Kathak and Carnatik vocal. Ratikanta 1

The first programme of the evening was Kathak dance by renowned Kathak dancer Sanjukta Sinha who started with an invocatory piece Bandish in Tin Taal followed by Thaat brilliantly executed with lightening footwork and layakari. Then his ground-breaking technique Kathak, a choreographic innovation presented with a great dexterity and precision mesmerized the art-connoisseurs. In his concluding item was Abhinaya Aaj Jane ki Jid na karo. She was accompanied by Mohit Gangani on Tabla, Ashish Gangani on Pakhawaj , Samiullah Khan on Vocal and Kamal Khan on Sarangi.

The second presentation of the evening was Carnatik Vocal by eminent Carnatik Classical Vocal Duo Ranjani Balasubramanian & Gyatri Balasubramanian. As top class Carnatik classical musicians, they are conservators of their genre’s unique beauty and preserve ancient tradition as they continue to innovate within it. Ranjani and Gayatri performances mesmerized the audience till the end.

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr. Damodar Rout, Hon’ble Minister, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, Public Enterprises; Dr. Subas Pani, Ex. Chief Secretary, Odisha; Shri Manoranjan Panigrahy, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Culture Department and Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, Director, Srjan.
