It has its primary responsibility, to disseminate the principles and ideals of Red Cross. The of these principles and ideals helps educate the population of on Red Cross Movement, contributes to the prevention of violations of humanitarian principles and to promotion of brotherhood and peace”, said Odisha Governor and President of Indian Red Cross Society- Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) Dr. S.C. Jamir.
Addressing the function organised by Odisha State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society on World Red Cross Day celebration at Jaydev Bhawan here, Governor Dr. Jamir said “In a world with increasing isolation, tension and recourse to violence, it is clear that the Red Cross must champion the individual and community values which encourage respect for other human beings and a willingness to work together to find solutions to community problems. I am sure Red Cross volunteers and staff will continue to understand and act on the basis of the fundamental principles in their work with vulnerable people. On World Red Cross Day, we celebrate the principles of Red Cross Movement. These principles have motivated and will continue to motivate every action of Red Cross towards the cause of humanity.
He urged upon the State Red Cross to be constantly prepared to provide critical services to the community in the time of need. It is well known that whenever large groups of people gather say in Rath Yatra, they are vulnerable to exigencies of circumstances. It is expected that during the forthcoming Nabakalebara year’s Rath Yatra there will be vast multitude of devotees and visitors from the country and abroad and our volunteers need to be fully geared up to render timely services to those who need help, he added.
Praising the noble efforts of Red Cross Health & Family Welfare Minister and Chairman of Working Committee of IRCS-OSB Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak Atanu said that the incomparable efforts of Red Cross volunteers, and members those who are working towards mitigating human suffering and in areas like voluntary blood donation are praiseworthy. It requires more activities to fulfill the blood requirement of State through voluntary blood donation.
School & Mass Education Minister and Chairman of Junior Red Cross Debi Prasad Mishra expressed that Odisha Government will very soon take immediate steps to raise the membership of Junior Red Cross and to strengthen the working mechanism of junior Red Cross
To mark the celebration a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised in collaboration with Vision India and 63 units of blood were collected. During the morning session a meeting was also organised, where the volunteers and life members shared their activity based on the principles of Red Cross.
On the occasion, awards and certificates were given to the Best Student of “SAHAYA”. As well as Aids and Appliances were also distributed to the persons with disabilities. The State level awards were given to the three best performing JRC activity district, three best performing Youth Red Cross units in colleges and trophies were also presented to three best performing YRC Counsellors and four best YRC volunteer.
The meeting was followed by a theme based cultural programme where Juniors and Youth Red Cross Volunteers, Students of SAHAYA–School of Special children’s & performed in the theme based Drama by the Red Cross Members were performed. The meeting was ended with a vote of thanks by Govinda Chanda Mahunta.
