Bhubaneswar, 29/08/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty )- : In a bid to promote sports in Odisha, the State
Government has decided to set up a Sports City with world-class infrastructure in Bhubaneswar soon. This was announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Biju Patnaik Sports Award ceremony at Jayadev Bhawan here on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister also announced that five integrated sports complexes will be established at Rourkela, Sambalpur, Jeypore and Berhampur with an investment of Rs 96 crore under SWARNA scheme.
On the occasion, the CM conferred best sportsperson award on Dutee Chand and best trainer award on Sanhita Das. He also felicitated Coach Panchanan Gantayat with the Lifetime Achievement award and awarded sports trainer Dr Haraprasad Patnaik for his best contribution to promotion of sports and games.
Besides, journalists Ashok Kumar Panda and Rajnikant Satrusalya were awarded for their contribution towards sports journalism.
Similarly, Harischandra Hiaal and Mohan Garada were conferred with the Biju Patnaik Bravery award for rescuing five children during flash floods last year.
Some sportspersons with disability Pramod Bhagat (Para Badminton), Jayani Behera (Para Atheletics), Rajesh Meher (Special Olympics), Jafar Iqbal and Sukhram Majhi (Blind Cricket), G. Narahari, Bonita Lakra, Bingaraj Miridia and Dipsan Tirkey were awarded with cash prizes in the outstanding sportspersons category.
