Bhubaneswar,19/02( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty) : Women constitute a very strategic segment of the society. However, they are
constantly marginalised and the state of single women is even worse. Therefore, the government policy for women must be specific and inclusive towards single women and the women must be ensured their rights must come out with specific policies for single women which can be used towards ensuring rights of Single Women. This was pluralised by the activists, researchers and policy analysts in a “National Workshop on Developing Policies for Ensuring Rights of Single Women”, a programme organised by ActionAid in Bhubaneswar.
The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by Dr. Deepa Prasad, Stat Programme Coordinator, United Nations Population Fund, Odisha, Dr. Manoranjan Mohanty, Academician and Ms. Snehanjali Mohanty, Member, State Commission for Women, Odisha and Bhagyalata Sahoo, a single woman who have got title for homestead land under land rights.B.N. Durga set the context of single women in the state and Pushpasree Devi moderated sessions on fact sharing of study conducted on Single women by ActionAid.
The two days’ workshop aims to culminate ideas and focus on the cross sectionality of women and their land rights towards coming out with a perspective on women in general and single women in particular in the context of land rights.
