Bhubaneswar, 9/3 ( Odisha Samachar / Anuja Nayak ) – The World Kidney Day has been observed since 2006 with the mission to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. This year the theme of the day is “Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and aging”.
The Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) in collaboration with Utkal Kidney Foundation & Apollo Hospital. Bhubaneswar organised the Early Kidney Evaluation Programme at Red Cross Bhavan, Unit – IX, Bhubaneswar on the eve of the World Kidney Day. On this occasion a free Kidney Check Camp was conducted for the elderly people (more than 50 years).
Shri Sandeep Mishra, Senior Asst. Editor, Times of India, Bhubaneswar inaugurated the programme as the Chief Guest and said that “Prevention is better than Cure”. In his address he added that treatment for the Kidney disease is very costly and it is difficult for a common man to afford treatment. He appreciated Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) for carrying out to such activities for the public.
Dr. Nisith Kumar Mohanty, Nephrologists and Director, Utkal Kidney Foundation, Bhubaneswar highlighted about the causes and preventive measures for the Kidney diseases in his key note address. He advised all the participants to remember & practice the slogan “Eat less & Walk More” for better health.
Dr. Mangala Prasad Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB presided over the programme and delivered the welcome address. In his presidential address he highlighted the objective of the programme and thanked Utkal Kidney Foundation and Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar for organising such preventive awareness programme. Shri Sudhir Kumar Sahoo, Project Coordinator, ODMP,IRCS-OSB coordinated the programme and offered vote of thanks.
Dr. Nisith Kumar Mohanty, Nephrologists, Medicine specialist Dr. Premanand Pattnaik and Geriatric specialist, Dr. Bijay Pattnaik of Apollo Hospital provided counseling to the patients. Besides, Mr. Jayadeep Samantaray, Sr. Manager and the technical team of Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar supported for Blood Pressure, BMI, Urea, Creatine Blood Sugar, ECG and check up of the patients were conducted with free of cost. More than 100 patients were screamed & Counselled in the Kidney Check up Camp.
