Bhubaneswar, 21/10 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty ) : Dhanteras was celebrated on Tuesday with full zest and enthusiasm. The State capital witnessed high sale of necklaces, bracelets, bangles, pendants, rings and chains made from gold, silver and diamond on the occasion of Dhanteras. Various Jewellery shops in the city also had offered special discounts to lure the customers.
According to Nilima, a housewife, “I have purchased silver coins containing emblems of goddess Lakshmi as it is a common belief that buying of precious metals on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras is considered as a sign of good luck”.
“We have purchased new aluminium utensils that were placed in front of the idol of goddess Lakshmi to seek blessings of the goddess for wealth, prosperity and happiness”, says Manisha, a software engineer.
The word Dhan means wealth and Teras means 13th day according to Hindu calendar. The day holds special significance as it marks the beginning of Deepavali.
