Bhubaneswar , 21/9 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty ) : On the 75th birthday of eminent social activist and former minister Swami Agnivesh, a day-long ‘maha- dharana’ was organized by Swami Agnivesh at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi against meat export, cow slaughter and prohibition of wine in the country.
In support of Swamiji’s endeavour, Arya Samaj, Odisha organized a programme “Light a Candle” at Buddha Mandir in the city. The programme was inaugurated by eminent Buddhist monk Sadatisha Thero.
On Swamiji’s 75th birthday, 75 candles were lit by the dignitaries including Sugata Bansha Thero, former Speaker Sarat Kumar Kar, freedom fighter Dolagobinda Pradhan, former Member of Parliament Ananta Prasad Sethy and senior vice president of Utkal Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Dr. Bikash Panda.
Presiding over the meeting, eminent social activist Arya Kumar Gyanendra highlighted Swamiji’s selfless and incomparable contribution in bringing about social change in the country.
Attending the meeting as chief speaker, former vice chancellor, Utkal University of Culture Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty said “Swami Agnivesh Ji has strived hard for the uplift of the downtrodden and for promotion of education. The younger generation must follow his ideology.”
President of Biju Patnaik Computer Academy Sita Ballav Mohapatra gave the welcome address and Maha Bodhi Society’s Trustee Dr. Sourendra Mohapatra offered the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Kali Prasad Samantaray, Nabin Chandra Sahu, Rasik Chand Patnaik, Alok Mohanty, Subrat Mohapatra and Prabhat Panigrahi.
